Default A Bad, Then Awesome Afternoon!!

I went to the grocery store today and use my iPad app "Our Groceries" as my list. Once I was done I was talking to my wife on the phone as I was loading them into the car. I was distracted and totally forgot to grab my iPad out of the seat in the cart. I left and got home (5 minutes away) and realized the stupid thing I had done. I raced back and check the cart return where I had left it and it wasn't there! So I went in and checked the customer service desk for it but no one had turned it in. Went back home and called the police on my way there. Tried to locate it using the app "Find My iPhone" when I discovered that you have to install it to be able to use it . Called Apple and AT&T for help in trying to locate it but was sadly told that there was nothing they could do since the locating app was not already installed. Very doubtfully that I'd ever see it again I went down to the police dept to file a report. After talking to the Sergeant I realized tat they were not going to be much help. Meanwhile my wife was texting my iPad trying to reach the person that had it. After getting home trying to come to grips that it was gone, she received a text back say that they had it and not to worry, they would call me. After about 20 minutes I got the call! He told me I could come by his house to pick it up which was only a few blocks away! I picked it up from him and offered him a reward of $100 for returning it so promptly, which he did not even except! Long story short, there are still honest people in this world and this has given me a renew faith in people! Also taught me that I needed to get that app installed on all of our devices! Get it installed on yours now before it is too late. I could have saved myself a lot of stress and would have found it inside the store while the guy was shopping.

Sorry for the long story, I just had to share it with you guys.

You're a lucky man Yogi... Most people wouldn't have seen that iPad ever again. I'd be devistated if I lost my iPad, it almost never leaves my house for that reason now that I have an iPhone.

Find My iPhone is definitely a feature worth enabling on all your iOS devices, and downloading the app as well. You have to enable it on your device or the ap will be useless.

To enable it, go to the "settings" app. Then, scroll down to "mail, contacts, calendars" and press "add account". Press the "iCloud" option, and put in your email address... Once that account is set up, make sure that the "find my iPhone" feature is turned on. Without this feature enabled, there's no way to track it. Hope this helps you guys.

that same chit happen to me and my girl went to hardees and had a great lunch, me and her leave the place and get home and realize what we have done. lol we left our evo 4g phones 3 days old on the table, we went back they and were gone. we talked to the lady behind the counter to look at the cams. they couldn't with out a police report, so we called the cops. long story short they seen the guy take em and no good face shots and we didnt have family locator on them either....so insurance and 100 bucks got us new ones. now we have family locator lol. its funny because the detective that had the case said that if you steal a phone and bring it in to the store to try and have it turned on, they will run it and see it stolen. they wont call the cops and hand you back the phone and tell you to leave. they wont get involved. how crappy is that

When you run it through the insurance for a replacement phone, they put a void on the ESN of the phone. Meaning that the phone just became a nice big expensive useless paper weight that can't ever be activated again. If someone were to take that phone to be activated, besides the fact that the carrier would see that the phone's ESN was void, they couldn't do anything about trying to reactivate it if they wanted to.

ESN stands for "Electronic Serial Number" by the way...

No Chit they're expensive! I bought it when the 3G model was first released and got one of the first shipment, its the 32GB model and costed me almost $900! My wife was just telling me that I'd just have to get a new one but I really didn't want a new one, I WANTED MINE BACK! My prayers were answered and this really has made me look at things in a more positive way.

Glad you got it back, you got lucky there. I know that heart stopping moment when you realize you are missing something.

The other day I lost my wallet with my credit and debit cards, cash to pay the flight school, health insurance, id and driving license. The school is 1 hour away from where I leave and I only realized half way back that my wallet was missing when I got to the paytoll and had no money to pay. Fortunately they just gave me a receipt to pay them next time. I got out of the highway and drove back 30 minutes as fast as possible to try to find it. I was going crazy lol, fortunately it had fallen out of my pocket and under seat of the plane I had just flown that was still at the school. I cannot tell you the feeling of relief at that moment, I was literally sweating!

Nice to hear there are good people out there. I'd like to think most here would have done the same.
I bought some screws and washers at Lowe's yesterday, got $20 cash back so I'd have money to pitch in for the UFC last night and walked away from the automatic check out thing and forgot my money. The guy that walked up behind me got my attention as I was walking away and gave me my money!
I got a new phone a couple weeks ago and they gave me the phone and gave me the box for the phone...........when I got home there was another one in the box . I called the guy up and let him know about his mistake. He was very grateful!
