Northwest side of Colorado Springs is burning

Well, my family is safe (terse is as well). We had a wildfire start outside of town on Saturday and now it has spread into town and is burning houses. It went from climbing into the mountains and threaten those communities Saturday night, Sunday (a lot), and Monday. Now it has hit here. It is very emotional around town. The firefighters are trying; but they have had to let structures go. I went to my summer classes at 1:00pm and everything seemed fine, by 4:45pm when I got home the NE side had caught fire.

Keep your prayers with our community and Boulder and Fort Collins as well. Fire around Fort Collins for about a month. One started today in Boulder and is possibly going to evacuate all of them.

We are Southeast of the fire and it is spreading North. We should be fine.

I am sort of a pyro maniac though, I LOVE fire. But not when it comes like this. Be safe!

Prayers sent...Be careful and wear a bandana or something so you don't breath in smoky harmful air in your lungs(if there is smoke around). Those firefighters have a fight on there hands, prayers sent to them too.

Today the smoke wasn't on our side of town because the wind shifted and that is what caused the town to start burning. There are over 32,000 people evacuated (that includes the people that live in the communities up the mountain from us). We are staying inside in the air conditioning and only going outside to drive to work and school. The dogs are limited to only potty breaks outside. Kids in the neighborhood have not been outside since Saturday afternoon. They just had to move the command center because it is now in an evacuated area.

I am off to try and get some sleep...I have some school stuff to do in the morning.

The firefighters have been refusing to leave the area where homes are on fire...they want to stop it. I graduated from high school where several guys are now at least volunteer firefighters and a lot of them are fighting it.

The community has overwhelmed the firefighters with donations of water and snacks. Local WalMart donated 2 semi's full of water...we have had record temps for the past 4-5 days. 95+ degrees (average is mid-high 80s). No humidity and no rain for a long time.

That's a bad combo of weather conditions, I hope it takes a turn for the better for them.

As a So Cal guy, I'm very familiar with your situation. If the smoke gets bad you'll have to put an Outerware's on your A/C unit (wrap it with a sheet) and clean the filters several times a day. Good luck and stay safe!

So, far they are not asking us to do anything else but to run the A/C and not open window. The biggest problem is many homes don't have A/C here. We are from Oklahoma...we wouldn't be able to sleep at night with out it being cool (as every house is OK has A/C) so we have central A/C now.

Today it is pretty smoky out there...I walked out the front door to go to my car and started coughing.

The same conditions they had yesterday with the wind shifting towards town is expected to happen later today. We have a "cold" front moving in, I think it is suppose to be 80s on Thursday (normal temps around here) instead of 95+
