Does it only spark on 1 stroke? If not it wouldnt make any difference which stroke you set it up on, right?

So, I know this thread got bumped by accident but it brings up a question I'd like to ask. I just installed a set of hot cams. When I took the engine apart it was definitely at tdc on the compression stroke. But in the process of changing out the cam chain and searching for a dowel I dropped in the crank (got it out) the engine got turned over a few times. Htow do I know I have the engine at tdc on the compression stroke, so when I time my cams they're in the right position? I'm thinking like on small engines the magneto causes a spark every time, but on these engines spark is controlled by the cdi and fires every other stroke?

Just make sure it's still on the timing mark (the line next to the T) and put your cams in correctly and you will be good. I had the same question when I did mine.
