I had my z at my local shop today and he is completely against k&n air filters, he says he rebuilds motors all the time because they let to much dirt in. Should i keep mine or go to the stock foam?

Yep K&N filters do let fine dust and dirt in. That is why the make the outerwears prefilter's. If your filter needs a filter then that tells it all. Stick with foam.

I would say the K&N replaced all the stock stuff and it just clamps on. Is it the stock K&N replacement or is your airbox have a clamp on adapter in it?

There is no reason you should notice a power loss. k&n's breathe far better than foam, even with an outerwear...i always try to use k&n filters Yes, they do BREATHE better, but thats all. With out an Outerwears and meticulous maintenance the K&N will let fine dirt and silt through. Thats A widely proven fact. They are great if your drag racing but even then 90% of those guys run an outerwears. The best K&N type filter is the FCI 8 ply filter. Vs the K&N's 4 ply. It slides onto a metal lip and a hose clamp is there to tighten it down. Then you can run a universal fit UNI filter ( or any other brand, I prefer UNI.) Measure your current filter and look for one similar on UNI's website.

I like K&N filters. I do run prefilters with all of them though. I clean and oil them on a regular basis. I have had no issues with them what so ever.

I used K&N once. I used a stock replacement in a car and after a short time I noticed alot of dirt and debris in the airbox that passed the filter. Never used one again. If you want a good filter stay with a foam type and oil it correctly. I use twin-air filter's. Also had good luck with Uni's.

K&N filters require a lot of maintenance, and it has to be done properly. I use one and you can white glove my intake any time you wish (wow that sounded gay
No Homo) If you're looking for all you can get and are willing to do the maintenance, and understand how to do it properly, you will be fine with K&N. If not, use something else, but foam fails if neglected too. Where I think most of the K&N problems start is neglect. Every ricky racer out there thinks they need one, and most of them don't understand the first thing about them. Many of the rest of the issues are from guys that do service them, but don't let them dry completely before oiling them. Oil and water don't mix, so if there's one drop of water still in that filter when you oil it, that's one spot that won't filter out any dirt. If you service it exactly as they instruct, with their cleaner and their oil, and you do it often enough, you won't have problems.

K&N over here
![]() I have an FCI intake off a trx and came with a 8ply filter that comes with it from fuel customs. I went and bought an extreme k&n(same size as FCI filter) and still used the FCI outerwear and I felt a very noticeable touchy snap feeling in the Bottom end power band over the FCI filter. I recharge my k&n after EVERY ride and use outerwear from fuel customs, and I have no air box. It's all up to you and where you ride. If you do get another k&n, get an extreme k&n I've been using k&n since 2006 when I bought my quad new and rode with same stock valves until this past year. I forgot who I sold my stock jug to, but the stock valves looked so good for being 5 years old, I sent them out to the buyer just in case his valves were cupped, shot, or covered in carbon build up. Maintanance after every single ride is key, and use chevron or shell gas. They use a cleaning additive that helps keep valves clean.

My 2 layer foam filter has about 3/4 inch of media to trap dirt.. My k&n, about the thickness of a hair.. I can sleep a lot better with the foam on.. I run both, but the k&n with the outerware, doesn"t get far between cleanings...

If you can see light through the filter, that means fine, powder dust will get in there..When its VERY dusty I have changed filters in one day !!Be safe is better than sorry cause it doesn't take long to ruin your engine and all performance gains are out the window... UNI

If you can see light through your K&N, send it back! They have a lifetime warranty.
