Yes it is, and yes, you can trust it. That cylinder is in my 470 stroker, and it has held up without issue. That piston is fine for non stroker applications. The piston is a stock equivalent type, meaning it's a cast piston which is about the same quality as the stock piston.

Got an intake HotCam on the way so will try that out and then might go for that big bore as well!

Honestly, you're money would be better spent on other mods at this point. A header, a bigger carb, the exhaust cam to go with that intake cam, a 400ex carb to air box boot, or aftermarket intake. a 400 that can breathe will out perform a 434 that can't.

I see that's a good point alright, might go with an FMF Powerbomb and try and get my slip on flared outm rejet and do 400ex boot etc. What sort of improvement would you realistically be looking at though?

If you do end up getting the BBK I would recommend some aftermarket valves and a DRZe kit for the springs as well.

I'd throw a carb into that list also if at all possible. With those things, I'd say you would double your improvement over stock, but it's just an estimation.

Later on, if/when you go to a 434 kit, if you throw in some bigger cams at the same time, you should be able to almost double your improvment over stock again.

Carb/intake/exhaust are a must if you want to make power. They made a huge difference when I was at stock bore. After that, if you decide on the 434, bigger cams would benefit you a lot. I ditched my hot cams for a set of webs, it's night and day w the cams and 434.
