if you can post pics of them here......your going to need drz valve springs and some new shims..performance gains will be noticable but not huge until you add a fcr carb and a full exhaust at least

I have been looking at the same for my 03 ltz. I called Hotcams, their rep said that they would work with the factory valves/springs?? but you would to shim the valves back to spec. I would like to hear opinions from anyone who has this mod. Where is the power gain in the powerband? My ltz has exhaust, pro design intake, dynatek fs, & re-jetted. Also, did you make jetting changes after install?

Any of the hot cams will work with your stock motor, new or old style. They seem to be best suited for stock displacement. Most with bored/stroked engines opt for more aggressive cams.

Thumbs up

I've been looking at these for a while. I own a 450r and was not trying to make the ltz into one. Hotcams rep. and others have suggested putting in both and not just the intake. I'm sure you guys have been here before, I'm open to sugggestions. Just looking for a little xtra power.

No such thing as stage 2 hotcams anymore. Hot cams did pretty well in my stock bore. Do you have a full exhaust or just a slip on? As long as you're only running a slip on, don't bother with cams. Throw a fcr and full exhaust on, then worry about cams.

There is only one stage of hotcams, no stage 2. $250 is what they go for brand new. I agree with biggie, do other mods first. Full exhaust is a must and should be done first imo, then follow with the intake/carb.

The old style cams were more aggressive than the new style, and with those, adding only the intake cam was stage 1 and adding both cams was stage 2. It was pretty much common knowledge that stage 2 was far superior.

There's a lot of people that are now still trying to call their new style hot cams stage 1 or 2, and it's just incorrect. Both cams with this setup are stage 1, and they are not as big as the old style cams.

If you want to tell what they are, just look at the exhasut cam and see if it's got an auto decompressor on it like the stock cams have. If it does, it's just a new style stage 1.
If there's no auto decompressor, it's old style stage 2 if the intake is a match for it.

Either of those will work fine with your stock bore engine. The old style stage 2 cams will be a little weaker off the bottom than stock, but will be much stronger the rest of the way up. (this is only on a 400cc bike, 434+ will have much different results)

Like already mentioned, a bigger carb and a header would probably be a better plan.

The hot cams can run with stock valve springs although, I'm not a big fan of this idea. Rev boxes that raise the rev limit will require better valve springs for sure.

Thanks for the information. I'm not trying to change the original subject from "johndeere9203" but many posted using the fcr carb. Is this necessary with a stock motor and a few bolt-on mods.
Motoworks full system
Pro-design intake
jetting changes made
dynatek fs
Possible new style hotcams??

while its not "must have" its a good cheap mod, really wakes it up, adds a bit of power, better throttle response etc.
