Default Fcr

What is an FCR and I guess I should get one, by the way everyone talks about it.

P.S. I'm ready for you guys to make fun of me for my question so let's hear it!

Sparks Racing 39mm FCR Carb kit - 03-04 Suzuki LTZ 400
Sparks Racing has put together and awesome carburetor kit for the Suzuki LTZ 400. It is a Keihin Flat Side CR (FCR) 39mm. It bolts right up, works with your stock thumb throttle cable and comes pre-jetted. The stock motor resonds very well to this carb ...

You can get them off a YFZ for $150-200.

It's more compact than your standard FCR carb so there won't be any clearance issues. It also matches perfectly (inside diameter) with the stock carb to head boot so there's little to no turbulence compared to the YFZ carbs. And finally, as said before, they are a direct bolt-in. No modifying or forcing it to go into place. Perfect for someone who doesn't know what an FCR is to begin with. No offense...just sayin'.
Nothing wrong with the YFZ carb. It's a great route to go if your looking to save some dough, are mechanically inclined, and have the extra time for the install and tuning.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I had read somewhere that the Sparks carbs are much simpler to tune than your typical FCR. Not sure why it would be though.

Easier to tune because they don't have all the crap you got to get rid of, don't need any o-ring mod, have a tapered bell so they don't need any kind of rat stack or transition ring and they don't have a leak jet.
If you got a pocket full of cash.....that's the one to get.

True, but I was referring to tuning in general (sorry for any confusion). I guess what I should be asking is....is there any advantage to running the Sparks carb over an FCR from a donor vehicle that been properly setup? Do you get any of that "FCR bog" with the Sparks carb?
I'm asking because I have both a modded YFZ carb and a CPW carb (similar to Sparks). I plan on downsizing to one bike and I'm debating on which carb to use. The CPW would typically be a no-brainer, but it doesn't have a choke, so I'm trying to decide if there are any advantages to keeping it over the YFZ carb.

huh, mine has a choke?
The only time mine had a bog was with the needle that was in it before I changed to the ncvq needle. Never a glitch now.

I got it off eBay a few years back. No choke whatsoever. The location when the choke plunger resides isn't even machined for one. I hadn't had any trouble getting it to start the little bit that I've messed with it, but it's only been in warm weather too. Not sure if starting will be an issue in cold weather.

I rarely need my choke. Usually a couple pumps is all it needs.

That needle made that kind of difference????? I got a bog that will thro you over the bars...Ive only had the bike out once since the rebuild but it did do some tuning ...plug looks like chocolate milk...I used wire in stead of o-ring...should do the same thing...I think?
