The paint on the springs doesnt matter. As far as the gasket...it should be metal. Not sure why you have a paper one. You are talking about the base gasket correct?

I have some spare metal ones. Or take your stock base gasket, drill the rivits and use a black layer with gasket sealant. That's all the drz gasket is.

I had the paper one on for a while, until I needed to take the jug off. Worked just fine.

ok i got my chit in and put every thing in the head, lapped the valves, springs, shimmed the intake to 0.18 and exhaust 0.28 is that ok? now i have one small problem i seem to have lost 2 washers that go to the head bolts. have no clue where they went. there not in the motor because i took the head bolts out and put them in a safe spot, then took the head off. as i took the head off i think the 2 washers were still in the head so i tossed about the head flipping it upside down and all inspecting it and they couldve fallen out some place. question can i use any old washer that are the same size exact to the ones i have still? another thing is should i lube the cylinder with anything, right now the piston is at the bottom and i have to put it top dead center. i have new rings and i honed the cylinder my self with scotch bright since the hone marks were semi there. i dont want to score the cylinder by putting it at top dead center with out some kind of lube?

I'm not too familiar with the washers on the cylinder head for the Z, but are they copper washers? I know on all the 2 stroke bikes i've taken apart they always had copper washers for the head. Not sure if it's the same with 4T engines as well. As for lubing the cylinder, it would be best to lube up the cylinder walls with oil. I would personally use a little 2 stroke oil since all that stuffs probably going to burn anyway once you fire it up, and 2T oil is meant to burn.

I dont have drz springs in front of me but most springs one end has tighter wound coils which that end goes towards the bottom of the head.

i put the paint marks up since they didnt come with any kind of instructions. they look the same up or down, so i just put the paint up.

people say not to lube the cylinder cus it will glaze the wall on fire up thats why i ask, i dont know what to do because its a toss up. to do it or not.
