The amount of questions on "What front shocks will fit my LTZ" are just about overwhelming. Here's the information you need, on some stock shocks, to determine what you're going to need to do - on your own. If they fit, great. If they don't fit, figure out what you're going to have to modify to make them fit. To each his own.

If anyone has any info to add on other shocks, feel free to add it - just try to keep the same format as below. Measure the upper and lower mounts accurately, i.e., with a digital caliper. Don't even bother if you're trying to eyeball upper and lower mounting width with a tape measure...

This is basically an information thread - not a question and answer thread. Keep the comments/questions to a minimum, and make a new thread to discuss your specific application for something that's not covered here.

No sense in waiting for Yamaha information, really, so here's the data. Stock everything, no aftermarket parts were used. All the shock information is the width of the bushing that's in the shock eye - that's what you need to make fit. The upper and lower measurements are NOT the width of the eye - these numbers are the bushing numbers. All "extended length" numbers are with the shock off, and fully entended, with no weight on it - static length.

LTZ frame and lower a-arm, shock mounting locations:

Upper shock mounting width: 20.4mm
Lower shock mounting width: 30.4mm

LTZ fronts:

19.80mm upper
29.80mm lower
16 7/8" length

LTR fronts:

22mm upper mount width
22mm lower mounting width
17.25" length

TRX 450R fronts:

18.50mm upper
30mm lower
16 3/8" length

TRX 250R fronts:

19mm upper
30mm lower
15 3/4" length

If we can get anyone to do it, we should throw in fully compressed length, which will also give us a stroke figure, because that is almost more important than extended length about the time you land a jump and tear the ball joints out because nobody noticed your shocks compress farther than the a-arms can safely move.

I have my info somewhere, on what I found to be allowable, that I can post up, but that was all done with burgard +2'' arms which will probably be different from stock or any other arms. I built my shocks to use every bit of travel avaliable, which actually, I may change soon, because I need to get my center of gravity down.

you guys should add which shocks have which features, like

LTR 450 preload, compression and rebound adjustable

figure more info never hurts

also yfz 04-08 use 15.75" shocks

09-10 yfzR use 18.25" shocks

Hey I was searching so see if I could fit my old 700 xp Fox shocks on my Z and the eye to eye is 14 1/2 inches. Would they fit? I mean I know if they did it would lower my front end about 2 or 3 inches, you guys think that is safe? I would have to compensate for the rear but it's worth a shot, any input?

Since you already have the shocks just take off one of yours and see if it will go on. If they do just test ride it to see if the frame hits the ground.

Yea I will tomorrow, I found them in my pole shed full of my grandpas old tools from a while back. I know they are from an old 700 xp indy and I really wanna see if they are better than my pogos. They seem a bit more complicated than the stock 03 shocks so they caught my attention. They are even shorter than YFZ shocks, so I know my ride height will be weird. But for ice idk maybe they will help. I even found an old red and black anodized pit bike shock from my old UPC 125! We bought a Fasst or whatever it was to replace it cuz we couldn't find anyone to rebuild it lol. It was a beefy little pit bike shock for $70!

The overall length is not the only dimention that matters. The compressed length is even more important. The ball joints only move so far, and they hit their limit before the frame hits the ground. If the ball joints reach their limit before the shocks do, you will wreck stuff. Check both ways before attempting. Remember that the risk involves broken suspension parts and bones.
