Anyone know if a rear shock off a Z will fit on a 400ex? My brother has a 2003 and the shock is finished, just wondering if I can give him one of my old z shocks. Anyone tried this before?

They are very close, but the Z shock lower mount is a bit narrower I believe. I dont think it will fit over the 400EX linkage.

I know of a guy that went the other way and put an ex shock in a Z... He had to use spacers because the Ex lower mount was wider. The travel is a bit different on them also, I believe the EX shock will collapse a bit shorter than the z shock also, but they are near the same extended length. Dont quote me on most of this, its been a while.

Thanks for the info man. Im just gonna give him the shock and see if he can make it work.....of not a used ex shock is like 40 bucks. His is making a real loud cracking and popping sound when it reaches the top on the way back up.
