Default Rear Spring Removal

I'm in the process of R and Ring the rear coil spring on the kids quad (figured he'd benefit the most from the lighter spring) to the 400 ex spring.

Any tricks to getting the spring off the shock body? I've done the fronts but I'm sure there is a ton more tension on this one.
I remember doing something with the vise on the fronts but cant remember what I did..

I would think spring compressors and maybe some PB blaster on the gland nuts would help alot.

I just did the same thing the other day. I just unscrewed the preload all the way and then pushed down on the spring with a foot long piece of angle iron and popped the holders out with a screwdriver. Took some figuring out to get it off but it was a breeze to put the keepers back in.

I actually used my bench vise, a big screwdriver and a crowbar. I had to drill a hole in my work bench to use the crowbar but I got it. You'd have to see it to understand but I couldn't take a pic cuz my tweaker nephew stole my camera on xmas day....yep Xmas!
I get to buy it back from the pawn shop on the 9th. I would have to file a police report against him to have a chance not to have to pay. For 50 bucks it's not worth all the extra family drama. He's in enough trouble as it is.

The 400ex spring lowered the rear down about 1-1/4".
