Do I part it out and move on?

I picked up this 03 Z400 not running, was told possible carb issues. I took it off went through it no issue, checked valves and found the intakes had virtually no clearance. I adjusted them to .010 -.012 and the exhausts the same, still nothing and its still sucking no air through the carb, but it sucks through the exhaust. Do I have a burnt or dropped valve? The timing is right on the money, cam chain looks good, spark is good. I didn't get the 20 to 30 thousandths on the exhaust, it should run with .012 right? I was hoping to get it running to make sure the trans is ok before I get too deep, now I'm not sure what to do. Whats this thing worth as is? Any advice?

So you say you aren't close to the valve clearance on the exhaust? It should start with less clearance than required, if the valves are sealing, but once it warms up it probably wouldn't let the valves close, IMO. You probably have worn valves that aren't sealing, anyway..

2007 LTZ 400.. 94mm J&E piston, +4mm hotrods crank, 536webb cams, wiseco valves, 39mm fcr, tokyo mods throttle spring, honda thumb throttle, spring removed. yoshimura full exhaust, honda 400ex intake tube, no air box

Thats what i think, my intakes are right on and .08 off on the exhaust side shouldn't make it not start and suck air through the exhaust. i must have a valve thats toasted...

I think I'm going to pull the head, check it out. Its not worth much around here for parts, I was offered 650 bucks as is. Do these transmissions have any common issues?

Turns out I was close on exhausts, intakes are crazy loose. Got my std and metric measurements confused, along with my tenths vs thousandths. Thanks again.
