Got a few Questions

So I'm back wanting to ride again after about a 3 year hiatus... I know to long... here's a little info

03 z400. 434bbk, hotcams, DRZe Springs and Ferrea valves. Full FMF exhaust. 400ex boot and stock carb jetted to I can't even remember.

The motor needs to build re-ringed and of course and new timing chain. I've been through like 3 Ticing chains. I have the MCCT. The last 2 Timing chains were the DID 3/4 chains. Heres my questions.

1. Is the DID 4/5 chain more stronger than the 3/4?

2. I have a FCR39 and do I use the same # Jets that I have in the stock Mikuni as a starting point on jetting the FCR?

Any tips on either 2 will be helpful. Thanks

I know the Jets are different. What would be a good starting point to get the FCR to run my Z?

The Mikuni carb has 140 main 60 start jet and the pilot is 32.5

what he said^^^^^^^^

If you have an mcct and are going through good timing chains that fast, my guess is you are running the tensioner too tight!

Yea it's a possibility for sure. I think imma go with a DID 4/5 and might got back to the ACCT. I've seen where you can cut a few coils off the spring. Or maybe I won't ride it as hard........doubtful

I ran the standard DID for a while and switched to a Wiseco, since a local place had a good price. With a manual tensioner and full year of racing, I would estimate that I used up about 3/4 of a timing chain consistently between both brands every year. I changed them yearly, but didn't need to, so now I have emergency spares. To tight on the tensioner isn't good for the cam journals either, so make sure that is set right.

The way I did the MCCT I'd set it where it was just hardly put tension on the chain and then I'd start up the bike and adjust it till it got quite then leave it alone till it would get noisy.

that's pretty much what I do......get it to clatter a little and tighten it up to a click.

Well did a little work today tearing down the Z. Not very pleased with finding out what was wrong. Looks like imma need a new head. The cam journals on the intake cam were shot. So much for a re-ring and timing chain.

What all year(s) head will on my 03 ltz? I would prefer a bare head because I have DRZe Springs and Ferrea valves.

How will factory cams go with a 434bbk and DRZe Springs full exhaust and fcr 39?

Ouch! Guessing a serious lack of oil there? Oil pump gear or pump would be worth checking...
It will run with factory cams, but there is more performance available, for sure.
If I was running around in the woods, I wouldn't worry about it..

Yea wasn't good at all. Imma check the pump out. Crazy thing the exhaust cam is like new. I just beat around the woods and some open flats. So I guess I'll be in the hut for a head. Like to just find a bare one and transfer my valves and Springs over into.

Don't know this seller, so buyer beware as always, but I saw this on ebay today. If it came off a running machine, you aren't going to do much better on price. Cam journals look good from what I can see, but a little hard to tell in pictures. (Edit just saw the cam caps missing, so that's no good. See if they still have those and you would be good to go, since they are a matched set)
