Well after lubing up my chain and noticing I lost my brand new chain roller I noticed that oil is leaking out of either the drive shaft or the shifter fork. Not sure what one it is didnt really look because I was too pissed off at the time. Is either seal hard to change? Any suggestions or has anyone had this problem? Thanks.

The shifter seal is easy to change if you can get a wood screw threaded into the side of it and pull it out with that. If you cant do that, then you need to pull the clutch cover off so you can remove the shifter. Then the seal just prys out.

You can use the screw method with the out put shaft seal but you have to remove the retainer plate first. If I remember right the screws for the retainer plate are phillips head... Make dam sure you use an impact driver with the right size bit to get them out. Mine came out very very hard.

I would check it over closely to determine exactly where the leak is before you do anything else. I thought I had a leak with one of those once, but it turned out to be a hole in the side cover where a piece of gear tooth from my clutch basket had got caught between the flywheel and cover and got shot out of the cover

That was a big repair!

Then select your year, make and model, go to the appropriate page, and look up number 27 and number 30...

Thats kind of screwy, I had it on the drawings when I linked it....

Look up the machine, then in the transmition drawing its #27

and in the gear shift drawing its #30

Just got to thinking also, make sure if you use the screw trick, do not nic the shaft or the case! On the out put shaft, there is a removable collar that you can remove, then I think it makes it easy to pry out the seal.

I always have a hard time remembering because I work on so much stuff that its hard to keep all of the details straight LOL I havent had to do any serious work to mine in a year and a half and that was the last time I was elbows deep into a Z engine

Well took off the chain and front sprocket off and found out its the out put seal. You can see that the seal is done for. Hopefully a new seal is all it needs, should be here next wednesday.
