Ok here's one I can't find anywhere. It's in the owner's manual.... which I don't have.. possibly the repair manual... which I also don't have, and can't find locally.

So, what is the proper amount of slack for the chain?
I've been setting it at like 1" of play, but I don't know if I'm in the right neighborhood or not.
Anybody know for sure?

1" is just fine. I believe it's 1-1.75" slack. I keep mine at 1".

Cool, I just didn't wanna get too slack and pop the chain off.
Somebody should maybe pin it, or add this to the other tune-up posts. I'm not kidding, I searched everywhere, yahoo, here, google with no answers.

It's actually 1.2-1.6 inches. Measure on the bottom in the center.

That seems like a lot. but I guess the bottom has more slack than the top.

Just like Uno stated above...in the center of the bottom side of the chain.

Oh wait a minute...OK!...I see what you`re asking now that I read your question again...so let me try to explain it as best as I can here. You don`t measure from a stationary part (such as the swinger or anything)...you just measure from point A (point at which you can push the chain upwards to) to point B (point at which you can push it downwards to)...understand what I`m saying & attempting to explain as best as I can? (it`s kinda hard for me to put it into the proper terms & stuff so bear w/ me on it here! ). I hope that helps ya get a good visual of what I`m trying to explain here.

Totally understandable man!...I had to edit it when I looked at your question again & thought about it more is all...you should understand it now & not be confused on it anymore if ya re-read my post now!
Heck...it`s not like I take an exact measurement on it myself...I just set mine for roughly 1 1/2" of play & it`s always been fine & has never given me any problems. Ya just don`t wanna be too tight or too loose is all.

Yes...according to pg. 64 of the Owner`s Manual...1.2-1.6" total travel of movement up & down. You`re not wrong.

Back to life.

Do you set it with 1.2-1.6" of movement up from the relaxed point of the chain, or in both directions?

Or from the relaxed position of the chain is should have .6-.8" of down and .6-.8" of up movement? Equaling 1.2 - 1.6" total up/down movement from the relaxed center point?

I think that as long as you have 1.2-1.6 in of travel between point A and point B you should be ok. If i'm not mistaken there is a demonstration in the manual.

Don't have either manuals. But point A can be considered its resting point, unless when you adjust from the bottom its resting point is all the way down and it will only move up.

I always adjusted from the top with about .75" of play and that seemed good for me but it started to sound like the chain was too tight so I searched this up.

Anyone have a pic of the diagram?
