Any one kno of what engines fit the best or ideas on which motor to get? I was thinking a GSXR 650 but have no idea if it will fit. Tranny gears are stripped in the original engine so its time to upgrade. Thanks

They never made a GSXR 650... I was at the track over the weekend and there was a guy with and old honda 400ex with a KX1000 engine in it... It was fast as w00ter!!! He said, any motor will fit, you just have to find a way to make it. You need to fab your own motor mounts, and cut and fit the frame.

sorry... i ment gsxr 600. but thanks. im trying to figure out which will require the least amout of fabricating to the frame. im worried about how weak it will be if i gotta cut and hack some areas, being that the Z's frame isnt quite all that strong to begin with.

You`re gonna have to do quite a bit of modifying & fabricating in order to make a crotch rocket motor fit into the Z frame!!!...so ya better have some 1/2 decent fabricating skills & the equipment handy in order to accomplish it!!!

What kind of riding do you plan on doing w/ it???

Mostly field and trails. Im not gonna trust the added weight and hacked frame for jumping or motocross riding. But I have the equipment at my buddies factory over in canton. As for my fabricating skills, I have some knowledge but for the most part I have another friend that is awesome with fabrications and modifactions that will help me out.

I plan on beefing out the frame and leaving the bike itself mostly with stock components, except for the stuff needed to be changed for the motor to fit.

Im wondering how the sprockets and chains will line up once the motor is mounted, along with how I want the exhaust to come out.
I've read up on some other ppls work on swaps and some have had to move the gas tank and air box, so that could be another issue.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas feel free to let me know.

For Trail riding and such that you plan on doing a Bullet bike motor would be terrible. I have no doubt that you could make that motor work in the Z frame but it's just not ideal for that kind of riding. They are really good for the dunes though.

Whynot just build up the engine. If you were going to put in all that money and time custom fabbing a gsx600 engine when you could get close to the performance with a nice built motor. Now using a 1000 or a 1300 motor would be crazy. I've seen R1 engines on raptors allover the net and theyre sick. Would be pretty sweet seeing how this worksout for you though

you can get a 600 engine for $500-800. That plus some welding is alot cheaper than building a z engine up to 3/4 the power.

Yes but. like I said, the GSXR600 motor would not be good for a trail bike. They have decent HP but have no low end torque at all, which is why they would suck for a trail bike.
