Thanks for the description. Wish I would have read this two weeks ago. Just did a timing chain on this engine. Didn't find any corrosion inside.
Assumed I had a new style cover and couldn't find any info online to help determining whether mine was old or new style.
I see now that I have the "boss" your talking about.
Need to call my local dealer. Wish me luck for a no hassle replacement!

Regards, Ken

Darederek. I posted the pic above. Can you confirm the recall has been completed on this quad? Just did cam chain, changed oil and coolant. My local dealer couldn't confirm with a VIN check. Would rather not haul it over there if I know it's good.

Regards, Ken

this fake bolt head is right by the bottom bolts

really, i need to check myself. just reading this, it seemed to me that yours should be aluminum. i see a bolt boss on yours

Thanks for checking in to it for me (and any others that are wanting to know for sure).

When I pulled the cover to do the chain, all looked well (no corrosion) inside.

Just spent $180 bucks on my 89 CR250 to replace it's cover. It had the same magnesium cover issue. I had serious corrosion. Had to flush the radiator's etc..

Don't want to go through that with this engine later on down the road.

Regards, Ken

Soo there are a couple posts in this thread saying that the cover with the bolt boss is the aluminum improved cover, i just got off the phone with my local dealer since my cover does not have the bolt boss (according to posts on here means i have the magnesium cover) and the dealer verified that my cover has been replaced from the original dealer based on my VIN number.

Anyone else have any confirmation through vin number or anything else about which cover truely has the bolt boss?

I'm trying to make sense of this too. Are you guys confusing "bolt boss" with the real bolt? Perhaps if someone that had the recall done for sure could post a comparison picture that would help. But to me it looks like the pic ken posted has a real bolt and not the fake bolt boss?

Well it's my GF's quad and it was having a problem and we bought it used. So when she started having this problem i started investigating into it. So i called up MY dealer and asked them to run the VIN and they said the recall was done by a different dealer but in fact the other dealer cheaped out and probably brought the quad in checked it and if it was OK they sent it right back without doing it.

Can you verify if the picture above with the bolt boss is the original or corrected case. Mine does not have the bolt boss but dealer confirms done by a dealer in jersey.
