Hey guys i searched and everything i found was pretty old. Im buying an 05z saturday and the owner does not know if the cover was ever replaced. Is there any visable way to tell a difference between the two covers and is it too late to have a dealer do the recall if it is still the original cover?

I believe I've heard of a couple of members within the past year that we're honored the recall by their dealers, but I really guess it depends on the dealership.
I believe the your dealership can tell you if the recall was done just by giving them the vin#. If your dealership won't perform the warranty, replacing the cover yourself isn't that difficult, and you can find clutch covers on eBay pretty cheap. |

if the recall is still valid, they should perform it. I get recalls where i work from like 5-6 years ago at times

It was not an official recall. I believe they called it Customer Satisfaction Program. The local dealers around here stopped honoring it in 2008.

The letter I got in the mail said "recall" on it. If it's a full blown recall, they have to honor it for the life of the vehicle.

Recall or not, how would I know if 1 of the ones on ebay was the updated version or not? anyway you can tell by looking at it? Or I think I just answered my own question, get 1 from an 07 or 08?

i got mine done about 7 months ago. Call your local dealer and give them your vin #. They will look it up and see if yours is complied with. if not, they should do it. do it soon though. I had mine actually wear 2 holes in the cover from the antifreeze i was running. didnt know about it until then. no questions asked when i called.

there is actually a way too tell...it is that on the aluminum cover,on the bottom, there is what they refer to as a 'bolt boss'...which is basically a fake bolt head that looks like an allen key fits in it.the magnesium cover on the otherhand doesn't have this' bolt boss'. if its there its been done, if not, it still has the magnesium and IS under warranty.
this fake bolt head is right by the bottom bolts, by the oil filter bypass tube thing that comes down from the oil filter.this is right off what the dealers got,i quote,"This is a Factory Directed Modification.Repair is authorized regardless of ownership or warranty status."I got the letter that the dealers got, from a'Big Wig' at head office. My dealer got in a heap of trouble for trying to weasle out of the fix and the head office dude sent all the stuffi needed to do the fix myself, to me...including oil and antifreeze.I did a write up about it on kawieriders under "Success for clutch cover"...don't let the dealer tell you 'NO!' |
