Default oil circulation problems still...PLZ HLP ME

ok so i got this quad and $1000 later i still can't figure out the engine problems.

fresh rebuild

main jet is too small or clogged because it won't take fuel past about half throttle and because of that i think the rings may have not seated well on break in because i couldn't put a load on it. It will smoke like a freight train after it starts to get a tiny bit warm. quits after a few minutes of idling and starts doin it again all at once. It was puking oil into the intake through the black box when i first got it and it may still be happening just not as bad. i didn't check so see if thats where the smoke is coming from but i think thats it.

oil circulation issue
i changed oil to spec as in the manual. new filter, new oil pump gear.
after i run it and let it set for a minute there is no oil in the tank. maybe 1/4in in the bottom if that. I removed the return line and started the quad and it's pumping oil back into the tank.
seems like its sucking the oil up as soon as it goes back in the tank. i removed the cam cover and started it and the timing chain is throwin oil everywhere so it looks like the top end is getting oil.

WHY IS THERE NO OIL IN MY RES.?

COULD THE OIL PROBLEM MAKE IT BUILD PRESSURE AND START SMOKIN ALL THE SUDDEN?

any help is greatly appreciated. im about to part it out and lose my a$$ if something doesn't change real quick.

thanks

Whats the quantity of oil in the tank after you let the bike idle for 5 mins and then shut it off and let it sit for 5 mins on level ground? If you are at the correct level then, your fine. Remember, its a dry sump system...

bierbaum told me that he had put his sump filter(the one inside the crankcase) the wrong way. He splitted the case and turned it over and now it works!

there is no oil ater it set for five minutes that the problem. it doesn't put oil in the res unless the motor is pumping it in there.

i never split the cases and they don't appear to have ever been split...im gonna read up on it though

EDIT - yanick, won't let me open the thread. can you copy n paste it for us?

Ok i got ya. Maybe there is a piece of trash in your oil return line. When there is pressure from the motor, it can get by. When its off it is just slightly gravity draining and can get through.

If the oil is pumping into the tank when the engine is running what makes you think you have a problem......maybe I missed something.

yes, it's inside the crankcase.
It may not be that, this is just a possibility

spize,

there isn't any oil draining back into the tank when the engine isn't running. I would think there should be a better flow of oil returning to the tank than what there is when it is running.

seems to be sucking the oil in the tank quicker than the return can fill it up, and it never drains back in the tank when i shut it off.

One of the "real" mechanics (I am no way included in that list) will have to figure this out.
As for the oil returning once it is shut off....I'm pretty sure that once it is shut off, gravity will not let the oil flow uphill into the tank.....

my manual says 3 minutes.....it gravity feeds back into the crankcase after a certain amount of time I think.

after draining the crank case and oil tank, how much oil total did you put back in? when changing oil, i always have to fill the res, run it, let it sit for a few minutes then top the res and run it again. i could never fill it to the proper capacity without running it at least once.

if it is smoking and pushing oil through the breather, you have issues. one of the rings could be cracked, upside down, piston cracked, scored walls...even if the rings are brand new and never have been run to wear in at all, you shouldnt have that much blowby.

How much oil did you put in it? When you changed the oil, did any drain out of the tank? If so how much? Did more drain out of the crank case? If you didn't pay attention, go ahead and drain the oil again and see if your worried about it. You might want to pick up a side cover gasket and pull the clutch cover off to make sure the plastic gear that drives the punt isn't sheared. Honestly I've checked my oil only a time or two since I've had the bike. Why? Because its hard to get an accurate reading (like I think your going through) and if I have no leaks and no smoke, then I shouldn't need oil. Right? I change it after every ride anyway. So I suspect I'll notice if I have a leak or whatever. If the oil that's stuck in the head is black, you've got a problem. If it seems to be circulating, you may be just chasing your tail.
