alright, so ive had my 08 z400 for 3 years now, and last season i gave this bike hell out in the trails almost every weekend! Now she still runs excellent but its burning a bit of oil, it don't smoke but it'll burn 1/2 a court of oil on a full day of riding (4-5hours of run time).
I havent done any valve adjustments since i had the bike and will be doing so before i start riding this season, what i wanna know is should i replace some stuff while i got this thing open? i have somewhat 3 options i was thinkin of. 1- adjust valves and that's all 2- do valve adjustments and I was thinking replacing the timing chain and valves (would like to upgrade to ferrea). 3- New piston/rings (might go with a big bore kit), do valve adjustments and replace the timing chain and valves What do you guys think? I do run this thing pretty hard and Just want this thing to keep ticking as good as it does now.

Once again, Biggie's on the mark. How much coin do you want to drop? Rings sound like a Good idea. And valves are always a good upgrade. And since your in there, you may as well put in a new cam chain and a DRZe base gasket along with a new head gasket. Check those valve seals too.
