Thumbs up Blob Removal/Reverse On Hot Start

Got this all done and cleaned up so I figured I'd Post some picts of the job.

Here is before (a pretty common sight for most):

After I cut all the wires right in front of the steering stem. Connected grey to yellow for high beams only when lights are turned on; connected black w/white tracer to one of the two wires on the Fly Racing kill button; connected the yellow w/black tracer to the other lead on the kill switch; terminated the white with a wire cap (low beam wire); and connected the 2 oranges and the orange w/white tracer all together for the brake light and the dash indicator lights.

Here is the wiring all completed and wrapped back up:

And a picture of the cleaned up clutch perch/start switch with the reverse connected to the hot start on the clutch:

Maybe this will help anyone that is planning on removing as much of the wiring as I did (a complete removal of all wiring from in front of the steering stem up to start button, no looping of the CPS wires)

I used this thread to start out, but had to make some adjustments to how it was all wired since I was not using a kill tether and I eliminated all the wires that went from where they split off to run to each side of the bars up to the kill switch.

Nice job! Is your reverse lever always loose like that though? I was able to adjust mine so that the lever is actually tight when it's in normal gears.
I can't find some of my better pictures but here are some that I have. At one time I was running the exact same perch as you though.

No, it's not loose. The lever was one spize made from a clutch lever after the one the clutch came with fell off on his first ride with it. RMATV then sent him a complete new clutch and didn't want this one returned to them. I set it perfectly it just looks loose since it's not the actual lever that the clutch came with.

Yeah it's kinda like a prosthetic........I have a hard time throwing things away. You could wittle away at it a little more if you wanted to. I just got it to where it would work though.
Looks good Yogi!
I'll be driving right by you tomorrow on my way to Santa Cruz to visit my son for his 21st b-day. We're going to spend the night in Morro Bay and go from there. Looks to be a wet trip

Any fun plans for his 21st? Gonna make a pit stop in oceano on your way back? Morro bay is a nice quiet little town to stay in. Are you taking the 1 up to Santa Cruz?

Thanks, it was kinda a pain since the wiring schematic was not colored exactly the same as the wiring on my machine. But I finally got it and I'm way happy with how much cleaner it looks and takes a lot less effort to start up. Highl recommend this mod.

Yeah, I liked everything about that mod except loosing my hi-low switch. I had my whip and tail lights come on with the low beam and the HID's would come on with the high beam. It was nice to have just the whip light for a light if we were sitting at a hill (Glamis) at night...

I would imagine that we will be heading up the 1 from Morro Bay. Not sure how else we'd go except maybe the 101 or are the the same at that point?

from Morro Bay to Santa Cruz on the 1 is a long drive but nice scenery, where as if you take the 101 its a lot more boring but quicker for sure. just stay on the 101 all the way to Salinas. Then you hit the 183 to the 1 up to Santa cruz

Are those just hotstart perches from something like a bike and you hooked up the reverse to it? I want to do something like that with the reverse on my 400. Also remove the blob. Where can perches like you have above be found?

RMATV has them for as little as 20 bucks or so.
That's where I got mine. I think it was a Lonestar brand or something like that.

Correction: 29 bucks and it a Longhorn. I think you can get an MSR for 10 bucks more...

Link didnt work. I found it though. Bad thing is they are blue or red. LoL. My kfx is Orange and Black. I will keep looking though. For sure gonna get rid of the blob and go with reverse on the hotstart. Why didnt I think of that. I was going to do the kfx450 reverse mod which would be sweet but this would be easier and more cost effective.

I have already found several different options. I am thinking hard about this one since it comes complete.
