Default Hi flow impeller vs cooling fins

Hi,im wondeing what would do a better job in cooling, they claim that the Hi flo billet impeller cools un to 35% more which im not to sure it will, the cooling fins doesnt say how much better it will cool, i read the cooling tips but it doesnt say whats better,i think it doesnt even talk about the impeller so i got my doubts, any idea?

My cooling system is all stock except for engine ice coolant. Why do you need to upgrade it? I'm sure my engine is more radical than yours and it nevers gets over 190....no matter the temp or how hard I ride it.

There you have it. My 490 had a stock cooling system too, except for the billet impeller. I have never had a cooling issue with the z. I did get a fluidyne radiator now too, and I'm now running engine ice, but it doesn't need it. I just like the idea of not having to worry about it in the sand when it's 110 F

To answer your question, I have never been a big believer in the in-line coolers unless they are fairly long.

The impeller won't make that big of a difference. Make sure the coolant mix is right and use engine ice like these guys have advised. If you have overheating issues at that point due to the added load, you'll need to look a better radiator or more airflow through the existing one. Are you using the Z400 radiator on this buggy?

I actually have a yfz450 radiator on it,the thing is im living in Costa Rica at the moment and there is no engine ice over here just regular coolant.
I made some air scoops for it as well just to make sure i can get as much air flow to the radiator.but thats all i got so far.

one plus side to the billet impeller is that it wont break...i have seen a couple plastic ones throw fins off.

Put a bigger radiator on it off a big cc utility bike. Problem solved. Also make sure you gear it correctly. Btw, I would never introduce that kind of load to a z engine (weight) unless you gear it to the high heavens.

Im not really worried about the weight on it,it had a 350 cc 2 stroke engine on it and it handled really good and it was fast, now with a 4 stroke engine i dont think ill have any issues it should be just fine more torque and more speed,i matched those up with yfz 450 a arms and long travel dual rate ohlins shocks ill post some pics as soon as i can go to the sop and take them thanks for the advice.

I have an 05 Z thats a 465 (+4HR crank and +4CW BB kit) I also have race port old style hot cams 39mmFCR carb CT exhaust .010" base gasket and EST head gasket(
about 13.5:1 comp ratio) with stock cooling system except for billet impellar. The only reason I put it in was the added cooling when the rad. gets clogged in a race so it wont melt the stock plastic one. (Had that happen on a teammates bike) Found that if you order it and your bike is 05 or newer you need an extra snapring for the second ring groove on the shaft or the billet impellar will hit the water pump cover.

I don't think either will help.
a) the impellers increase flow, but too much flow is necessarily not good. If you wanted to experiment you could take out the thermostat and essentially accomplish almost the same thing for free.
b) the radiators are aluminum... putting in the finned coolers won't do jack

Which ever DRZ had no thermostat, did have a flow control ring in it's place. You could try that if you want to speed up water flow for cheap, but if the radiator isn't big enough now, it won't help anything.

In my opinion, what you have there should be just fine as long as there is plenty of air flow to that radiator. I don't think you will have any issues.
