Just picked up a nice 04 model Z400, the owner had the tail light assy off the quad for some reason, anyway, I'm trying to figure out how it goes on if I even have the right light, or missing any mounts for it. Could anyone please post a pic of the rear light and mount assy. Thanks. Nick

Did you get this figured out?
I don't have a pic to post, but the rear of the light housing should have two barbed posts (not sure what else to call them) sticking out of it (one on each side). Those go into two tabs that are attached to the sub-frame...if that makes any sense at all. ![]() Your tail light should look like this one:

The two "barbed posts" on the light go through rubber grommets on the tabs that are below the grab bar.

Yea! What he said!
![]() Also, sometimes when I took my light off the rubber grommets stayed on the 'barbed posts' and pulled out of the tabs. So if its not all adding up, that may be why. There has to be a better term than 'barbed posts'

That's what I figured, the guy gave me the wrong light assy, it's not as tall (top to bottom) as the pic you've got. Guess I need to go to fleabay. Gotta figure out what my light fits, maybe able to make it work some how.

you should be able to get it to work pretty easily. or leave it off, its all the craze these days
![]() You might be missing the mount on the subframe too. On the 03 models its a plate with tabs that hang down and it bolts on top of the subframe along with the fender mounts. I thought on the newer models it was built into the fender brackets but maybe I'm wrong...

I got an '04 at home and a brand new light for it. I'll snap some good pics for you when I get home from work....but like Camaro said, maybe you can make the light that you have work.

The light he gave me is not the right light, thanks for the pics, I should be able to get her to work, probably make a couple small brackets to extend off the stock subframe ones and attach the light, the tabs on my light don't match up.

My OEM light was broken when I bought the quad so I went with a LED from harbor freight($20) and made my own bracket....same 3 wires.
