Found some of these weird really smooth flake board stuff we had laying around so I slapped that into he bottom and made it the floor. I also just siliconed all the corners. Bought a regulator with gauge from lowes for $19 and I'm almost ready to start coating. I'll post pics of my first projects

Have you guys ever thought about adding glow in the dark powder in certain coatings? i saw online they have new stuff tht lasts years instead of fading away and its bright! I just orderd the eastwood kit and might go this route on some of my parts but i cant decide on colors bike is white but id like a green and ( .???....)... theme you can add it in any powder coat paint and it wont show up as flakes in daylight .. thought it was pretty cool

I'm currently patiently awaiting the fed ex man to show up with my eastwood kit! What eastwood kit did you get?

i picked up the deluxe on i think? it was 125 shipped on ebay..came with a few bottles 3 colors some plugs tape wire etc etc

i got around to coating my first piece..im a little disapointed but i guess thats my impatience getting the best of me-practice makes perfect right?

heres a breakdown of my 'settings'
i experimented on one of the stainless "spize" dashes i made..

material: sandblasted and degreased stainless steel
part temp: room temp (did not preheat)
ground was good, had great spark when checked
psi used: 10psi
color: eastwood black
curing: 400* for 25 min

i noticed my coverage wasnt all that great prior to curing. im attributing it to either a ground issue (which seems unlikely) or the lack of preheat..

comments?

I haven't done anything yet, but I'm gonna guess it was the lack of heat. From what I read, the heat makes it stick better. Try it with heat. I know I'm not doing anything without preheating. I have a nifty booth that came with my oven. Pics in a minute.

yikes! not sure what happened there. with the darker colors, it should be pretty apparent whether the piece is sufficiently covered or not. does your gun have a dual charge? or is it single charge? also, be sure the ground, hanging wire and hooks are clean and have not been powder coated on a previous bake. i always preheat my pieces as i preheat the oven, then remove and spray and then bake.

my hunch is the charge. a flat piece like that should have been covered by one or two passes.

be sure to sift the powder before it goes into the gun. and store the powder per the instructions.

good luck

my gun is single charge
the hooks wires and hangers are all clean of powder
the ground was fine

i did notice some bare spots prior to baking but i wanted to see how it would come out. i wasnt sure if the powder 'flowed' to the parts with no powder. so call it an experiment lol

kind of frustrating because i feel like i followed everything properly and the results are not correct..

You probably did not have enough powder either. Just a guess.

Maybe it wasn't clean enough. Seems like around the holes where cutting oil would be.

The first piece I did was a clutch lever and it came out about the same.
1) not enough powder, I have learnt that you can put a decent amount of powder on it. I have had only one real run and it was because my gun went nuts when I first pulled the trigger. I always point the gun away from the item when I start out now.
2) watch your "spark" on the piece, I have had problem and have read that when yoou "spark of your piece" you over charge it and should stop and start over.
3) you can preheat the piece and spray another coat on it. If you want to strip it soak it in M.E.K. for the night and tomorrow the pc will peel right off
