Default Powder coating

Well as some of you know I work in a machine shop and today I just got some excellent news..found out I can use the huge industrial oven for my own use
What does this mean you ask? Well I've always had a hard on for powder coating and can think of 100s of things I want to to but never had a place to heat them. Now I do

Thinking about getting the harbor freight kit. Does anyone have experience with it? I saw chrisroberts has one but does anyone else?

Very excited

I dont know if you like buying from ebay or not but there is a hotcoat kit on there and comes with a small amount of 3 colors of powder. i think its around $100-$125. If i ever buy one this is the one i was going to look into.

i dont think that would work very well. there's a ton of youtube videos on powder coating that might give you a better idea. whats your work oven primarily used for?

That won't work to good. An electric charge atracks the powder, the powder can be brushed off by just blowing on it or touching the side of oven or anything. Also you need to make a little spray booth to catch over spray. More powder hits the floor than the piece, this powder can be reclaimed if you use a small booth.

As soon as my baby falls asleep I will go out and take couple pics of the booth and oven set up. The only I'm sending out is the frame, steering stem and maybe nerf bars.

cool yeah i realized this wasnt a good idea after i watched a few videos so i will have to do this at work..they have racks for the oven i can spray it on there and put it right in..as for the 'booth' i may make one cheesy one out of some cardboard for now just to keep it clean

Using an old electric oven?

I just got an old stove my grandma gave me and I was going to use it for powdercoating. Just needing to set up a paint booth. I was thinking of using a small shed that is currently serving as a wood shed. Should be empty after this winter.

Ok here it is, my state of the art Powder coating station. PC gun - harbor freight $79, Used sandblasting cabinet $100 on CL. House hold oven FREE on side of road. You will also need an air compressor and regulator for the HF gun, idk about the other guns.

the spray booth don't need to be any bigger than the oven, mine is 24x24x24.
I bead blast parts before coating and you should preheat parts.

Bare

Powder Sprayed

Finger Swipe

You can see the white on the back of the oven from my swing arm bump it.

I normally fill the oven up with parts turn it on and get everything ready pull parts out one at a time spray them hang them on a rack till oven is empty then reload it.

Powder is kinda cheep on ebay and sold by the pound. You can get any color and put special effects on it with different top coats.
