Default steering stem ebay bushing

Just installed the ebay metal steering stem bushing on darkmitsu's z this week end. if you are not to handy with a dremel or sandpaper, this item is not for you. we must have taken about 1/16 to 1/16 heavy for it to fit in the frame. although we had to take materiel off to make it fit, after all said and done the steering felt tight. we had slipped the bushing on the stem before installing and the bushing was slightly loose, as in it has side to side wobble but after it was in, the steering had no play. he is very happy with his steering now, so im guessing all is well.

It only lasted me about the same amount of time the plastic one did. I wonder if something is rubbing that shouldn't.

I wouldn't know, mine was like it when I got it. I can probably wiggle it 3/4 to an inch either way

Anybody have a link to this bushing? It's not really metal is it? A 1/16" is a lot of material to remove. Did you try freezing it beforehand? There was a guy a few years back that made them out of a type of bronzite I believe.

I got one of these, and it was an extremely tight fit. I attributed it to the extra thickness of my powdercoated frame. I cleaned some powder coat out, and it still was a fight to get it in there. Then, since aluminium and steel don't get along so well together when it comes to corrosion, I Drilled a hole through the frame and the bushing, and added a grease zirk.

Now I throw a pump of grease in there whenever I grease the rest of the suspension, and I haven't had any issues. It's got one season on it, and I can't tell that it's worn at all.

speaking to the impregnated bronze. i replaced mine with one of the bronze ones a few years ago . i kinda got the feeling i may gotten one of the last ones. soon after i got a report he had been kicked off ebay.

i looked into getting some impregnated bronze to turn out a few ,is kinda expensive .

I had the same problem. I sanded it down and it was still a tight fit but it went in there. Hopefully it doesn't wear out too soon and give me headaches getting it out. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on it and maybe pulling the stem to lube it every once in awhile. And a zirc fitting sounds like a good idea while I'm at it.
