Call a Suzuki or Arctic Cat dealer and have them run the VIN to see if it was changed. They can't just hop on a computer and give you an instant answer, but they can call their TSM and have them get an answer back to you over time.

Or, look at the cover. If it's aluminum, it's been replaced. If it's magnesium, it hasn't been replaced.

ive owned my 05 z400 since brand new. when i heard about the recall i brought the bike over and he looked at it(meerly glanced at it on the back of my trailer) and said it didnt need to done. so i never thought about it again and have been riding it when i can(once a month or so lately because ive been busy and havent been riding it) and have noticed it doesnt want to start and bogs when it does start.

so yesterday i go to change the oil because we were going to take it to PA for the long weekend and i checked the oil and it was extremely milky. figured i would crack open the filter a little and same there.

so now im pissed as hell because they told me i didnt need the recall when i brought it there to begin with when clearly i did need to have it done and who knows what other kind of damage was done.

what would be the proper repair for my situation? will just the clutch cover, oil and coolant change take care of it? or should i be demanding more repairs due to their negligence the first time around? i did buy the extended warranty on the bike too.

First, find another dealership. No joke. If the place you went to wouldn't even take down your VIN, then that's some bad practice. The Mag and Aluminum cases are pretty hard to tell what they are, unless you've got one of each sitting together.

If you don't have another dealership relatively close, then try calling up that same place on the phone, tell them you have an '05 and suspect the clutch cover work has never been done, and have them run your VIN to check it out.

Or, eff all that and PM me your VIN. t might take a week, but I'll find out if it's been done.

ok well i finally dropped it off last night at the dealer. (pompton honda-suzuki)

we went through the recall bulletins and everything last night and he said it is an open recall and put it dont to have the clutch cover replaced and have the recall completed.

however, im really afraid of the potential other damage that could of been done with the coolant and oil mixing together. i dont want to be told that its good to go by just replacing the clutch cover and then having other problems down the road. while im still in my extended warranty period and the recall is still valid i would like to see the problem fixed 100% and dont want them to try to avoid doing it because they are most likely getting paid less to fix recall and warranty work(like most car dealerships)

Just so everybody knows - the magnesium clutch cover issue was NOT a Recall. It was part of the "Customer Satisfaction Program."

A Recall is something they only do if there's going to be a death or serious injury resulting from the problem. Like the early 2006 LTR 450 rear shock linkage - That was a Recall, and a fully warranted one.

If it's not going to cause a death or serious injury to a rider, but it's still a problem, then it's handled under the Customer Satisfaction Program.

This was a problem, but it's not a problem that would normally result in a death or serious injury - so it wasn't handled, or labeled, as a "Recall."

If any of you guys go into your dealership and ask about the "Clutch Cover Recall," they can honestly look you right in the eye and tell you there's no such thing. And they're fully telling you the truth. Some shady dealerships have done this.

You need to have your info right when you go in there, and be careful what you're asking about. This wasn't a Recall.

Just a heads up to the Canadia ppl with a Kawi bike.....

Ive been to a few dealers back when i needed this done... they wont cover you since the papers says Suzuki let alone its a form from the US.. and not Kawasaki... and the suzuki production for Canada will only tell you that they do not own Kawasaki anymore and that you will need to contact a representative at kawasaki to resolve this problem... and I have had no luck contacting a kawasaki representative from canada..

and like normalZ said... DO NOT SAY Recall.. i did that mistake the 1st time around...
