Default hot start is choke?

Thats my question. Is "hot start" just another meaning for your choke? I keep hearing alot about it but not sure what it is. (pretty dumb about it) I like the idea of getting rid of the "blob" and found a lever i want with the "hotstart" on it, im assuming thats where the choke cable would hook up. Is that right? but i can't seem to find the electric start button anywheres. Can ya point me to the right site? and is this all i need to eliminate the blob? I appreciate all the help, thanks

You can use the hotstart lever for your choke. Hot start is a compression release. Makes it easier to crank on those high comp bikes. Best thing to do is have the pull choke on the carb and use the hot start lever for the reverse. One of my favorite mods so far.

the hot start has nothing to do with the compression release. the hot start lever is connected to another cable that goes to a choke like plunger on the carb. what it does is when the bike is hot and you try to start it, you can pull the lever and it changes the air/fuel mixture, not exactly sure which way, assumeing leaning it out so it is easier to start a kickstart bike. nothing to do with compression. the stock Z cams have an auto decomp on it. like alot of other bikes.

Well I guess I was wrong. I just thought it would be a comp release.

nope. if you ever get a chance to mess with a dirtbike that has a hotstart lever trace the cable. i know on the fcr its up on there almost like where the choke is on the stock carb.

Hot start is the oposite of choke - it leans the mixture for easier starting when hot. It's a big benefit when trying to kick start a bike that's fallen over, I'm still on the fence as to whether it helps much in starting a quad with Electric start.

Anyone know what type of MSR lever (or any type) with a hot start on it that works on the Z?

any lever that has a hotstart lever can work. the stock carb on the Z does not have a hotstart though.
