you dont need to take the tank off, the tool provided in the tool kit will get it out.. You should pry the rubber cover off the plug, then blow air in the drain hole on the side of the head and down the hole if possible to clear dirt away from the plug before removing it...It is a lot easier with the tank off though...

I have done a lot of chamber work, so I was looking to gain a little compression back. One other thing about these, is they move the point of ignition to a little lower in the combustion chamber which is closer to the center of the chamber when you consider the piston part of the chamber. In theory, it may speed up combustion just slightly.
