Default To Slime or not to Slime?

Hey guys,
I just bought 2 new rear ITP Holeshot HD's, What does everyone think about putting Slime in them for preventive reasons? If I ever get a small hole while on the trails, this could keep it from going flat. Eh?

A little preventive maintenance is always nice. I don't really see how it could hurt.

Two negatives though...

1. It won't help if you cut a sidewall.
2. Whoever does your next tire change isn't gonna be very happy.

Just carry a plug kit under your seat. The ambient pressure in the tire will be enough to get you back to your truck and air it up.

I have 2 friends that argue about this every frigging week... 1 puts it in everything the other hates it and will destroy all slime bottles... I agree with drnez.

I've been told that Slime can actually corrode some aluminum wheels.
I used Sta-Flo liquid starch (yep) from Walmart in all four of my sand rail tires as they all had slow leaks and have not had to add air since. This was about 2 months ago.
It's about 3 bucks a gallon (at Walmart).

You need to remove the valve stem core and put it in just like slime. I used an old gear oil bottle with a piece of 1/4' tube lipped over the tip and just squeezed it in. If I remember correctly I added 8 oz. to the fronts (16oz in my rear paddles, big paddles) and that would be pretty close to what a rear quad tire would be. So I would probably do 4 oz in front and 6 oz in the rears.

Consider this the "hot tip of the day"

Nope. nasty crap. With the HD's the kind of holes slime would fill you aren't going to have to worry much about anyway, and if you do get a larger puncture, it makes installing a plug a PITA.

Don't put it in. Whenever I've used it it never sealed the hole anyways

I also carry a 12g Co2 pump. 2 cartridges will fill a tire no need to leave the trail

yea, that slime chit sucks its messy when you need to change the tire and doesn't plug holes very well or at all. Even fix-a-flat works better.

I had a leaky bead on one of the paddles that came with the '04 we bought recently. I took it to the local shop that does quad and bick tires ALL day long.
The guy told me that he doesn't mind Slime, but hates it when a tire/wheel has fix-a-flat in it. Just an FYI.
I still say Sta-Flo is the chit and I don't care what the tire guy thinks about it.
