Default Chain Problems

When i went to tighten the chain on my 04 z and i untightened the four bolts on the top of the swingarm. And i went to tighten the bolt on the back of the swing arm and its like the bolt wont catch. the plate on the back of the swingarm is loose. Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Take a picture and show us. Or a video. That would be helpful.

Is anything stripped?

When you look at the four bolts on top can you see a small gaps at the top or at the bottom?
If you tighted your chain to its max then you used an impact to try to get it tighter past that point you may have stripped where the bolt goes in the carrier.

sounds like the nuts stripped. sometimes people crank on them without loosening the clamping bolts first, and strip the nuts.

Make sure the bar that the nuts are welded to isn't bent at all. If its warped just a bit it could be hard to start the threads.
