Need a honest opinion about the ltz 400 in the dunes

Hey I just bought this 05 ltz 400 bored to 434 with yoshi pipe and k&n intake. Im mostly a dune rider (95%) and I bought this z for the dunes here in oregon. I know it's not as fast as the 450's but is it true that the Z is a turd in the dunes?
You can look at my pictures to see my setup... just be honest and experience weighs heavy in this post. I need to know what im getting into

most of the guys here don't ride dunes . I know this because I do and no body wants to go with me to ride some of the best dunes in the USA . just abunch of bench warmers .

the stock z is under powered . throw some money at it +4 crank , rhc 187 cams ,+1 valves, FCR ,pipe ,dynateck , big bore

That 434 will get you anywhere you want to go. The 400 will too, but the extra is nice, especially if you are heavy. I too would do the fcr, and maybe some cams.

2007 LTZ 400.. 94mm J&E piston, +4mm hotrods crank, 536webb cams, wiseco valves, 39mm fcr, tokyo mods throttle spring, honda thumb throttle, spring removed. yoshimura full exhaust, honda 400ex intake tube, no air box

Ok thanks! The bike has a stock cdi so I assume top end isn't built on my Z. I'll find out at the end of the riding season when I teardown, powder coat, add power and rebuild. I keep hearing about the dunes in UT.. is that where you guys ride?

So here the dunes are in the woods so lots of tree shots up hill. My 434 Z with my 20 inch paddles should be able to get up there? I was riding my girlfriends family's honda 450 for a while till I got my suzy

Your Z should do fine. Mine has no issues with most 450's and doesn't have much done to it.
What's gonna make a big difference is what paddles you are running. If you are overpaddled you are robbing power.
Anything more then 6 paddle Haulers on that set-up is probably too much.

I think it should say on the paddle if it is a hauler or a glider, The difference is the paddle height. Gliders wouldn't suck as much power. Those will still get you around, but won't do you any favour's in a hill drag. Not sure what those wheels weigh, but lighter is faster as well, unless you like to jump..

Maybe it's you Cat? Just sayin......

The Z does very well at the dunes. Stock struggles a bit. With what you have, and an FCR carb will make it a very nice dune machine.

Sand stars are fine for most trails and climbs. See mostly sand stars or haulers. Gearing, power, suspension Oregon Dunes

Ive been to Christmas Valley,Salt lake, St Anthanys, Moses Lake, SandLake, Florence, Winchester and Coos Bay. All have different sand and terrain. St Anthanys and Salt Lake are awesome.
