Really depends on your riding style.. Sometimes I'll go a whole 2 or 3 hour ride and my fan will only kick on once or twice. Then sometimes i'll hear my fan keep coming on, then going off, then coming back on (that's when i'm really lugging it around)
I'd assume that it probably shouldn't come on all that much with the engine ice (i'm putting engine ice in mine soon).. just keep an eye on the idiot lights to make sure that the temp. one doesn't come on. You should be okay..

Why do you ask anyway? and also.. you could leave it idling for a while if you really wanted to see if the fan kicks on

hmmm well, as long as the idiot light didn't come on, and the coolant didn't start boiling over, it's just fine.. That engine ice is some good stuff! I have it running in my friend's RM 2 stroke dirt bike (no thermostat, no fan) and it's perfect for it! no issues what so ever with cooling

carefull if your running a procom cdi...i've heard of some instances where the overheating light didnt come on at all...outside temps play a big role also...if it was a cool day thats not surprising it didnt kick in..

even if the light didn't come on.. that stuff has a 267 degree boiling point. It would have boiled over if it really got too hot.

He ran the bike INSIDE the house for 20 minutes? Your dad is a true redneck, and I mean that in the nicest way possible, lol.
I run engine ice on my very mild Z and the fan will kick on within 10 minutes or so just idling in my garage, but I have a sensor I bought off eBay that turns the fan on sooner. Either way, I would think that if your quad was running for 20 minutes at room temperature with no air flowing thru the radiator that the fan would have turned on at some point. What CDI are running anyway? Referring to the Procom comment....I ran a Procom and for some reason, when I plugged it in it disables the temp light (I reinstalled the stock CDI to make sure). I ran a race once where I ended up overheating (before I started using engine ice). Because of the Procom, I had no light to warn me before-hand. I didn't have any boiling over or nothing. The quad just quit on me. I couldn't get it to restart for nothing. I was towed back to the truck and it started just fine then and everytime thereafter. I don't know if there is some sort of sensor to shut bike down if it gets too hot or what. Last edited by woodsrider129; 11-30-2011 at 03:44 AM. |

i have "yet" to see any procom to this day have the temp light come on on startup......and that procom box is so generic. big gun, yoshi, max rev, alba and countless others use it....using that box is just a roll of the dice imo...and I have used them before.... procom promised several times to address this issue but never have to this day....

Assuming that your temp light doesn't come on when you 1st turn the key on, try putting the stock CDI back in. I wouldn't think this would fix your fan issue, but atleast this way you can maybe narrow down the fan issue.
Temp light comes on but no fan=problem No temp light and no fan=probably not getting hot enough (make sure temp light works when you 1st turn key on) |
