Default Coolant is hot!!!

I'll post this here, because ultimately I have a few questions. (Picture is kinda graphic for those that don't like wounds)

I went on my first ride with the z this past weekend and it ran really great! I had been trying to make sure it had enough coolant after the rebuild (bleeding the system). I rode for 30 minutes and coolant went down and the fan kicked on so I put some more coolant in. After our second ride I got back to the house, no issues, and out of nowhere it starts steaming out the coolant reservoir vent. Like an idiot, I pulled the black plug. Coolant sprayed everywhere, and what's the first thing it hit? My hand!! Instant blister.

So my thought is that it was pressurizing via a gasket leak. I haven't checked due to lack of time if coolant is in the oil, but I will once I'm home. The quad never smoked like it was burning coolant, and had about 130lbs. of compression. My only other thought is that the thermostat stuck closed. But the coolant seemed to circulate, so I'm doubting that. Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

try running it with the cap off, see if its pushing bubbles.

if the fan kicked on its probably circulating, but is there a chance you put the thermostat in backwards?

The lesson here boys and girls is don't play with hot coolant! That looks like it hurts like hell! Good luck with figuring out the problem.

Man bet that hurt. I know my head gasket had a small leak and kept wanting to fill the overflow bottle also.

I don't know why coolant is called coolant. It should be called hotant, since it's usually hot as hell.

Looked into the coolant in oil issue, and there was none. I didn't have much time last night though so I couldn't look into anything else.

I'll definitely check that out. I didn't install the thermostat, so who knows what the PO did. When I got it, it wasn't running (compression), so I just put a good stock jug/piston I had back on it. Checked/reshimmed valves, and it would start within one crank, no choke. Hopefully I can get into it this weekend.
