Talking Hey! New rider, old LT250R, maybe...

A buddy of mine is dropping off a LT250R at my place Tuesday.
It needs a 'top-end' rebuild, his words.
If it needs a 'Top-End job, I can do that.
Been around 2-strokes a long time.
If it needs plastics and a seat cover, ect. where can I find those?
I'm also going to need a service manual for the torque spec's and exploded views they offer.
I'll post pic's and more info. when it gets dropped off tuesday!
Jim

Is there a differance between the 85 and 87 LT's as far as the body and seats go?
I'm supposed to get the bike Tuesday the 15th.
Then I can post more accurate info. on what it is and needs.

Yes there is a difference on the seat.... plastics for all years interchange... only 91-92 have different airbox cut-out... 85-86's came w/ straight seats, 87+ came w/ t-shaped seats... but all seats will interchange w/ all years....

You can tell the year by 10th digit on the V.I.N. # on the lower frame rail...
F=85
G=86
H=87
J=88
K=89
L=90
M=91
N=92

Then you at least know what frame your dealing w/... if it has a powervalve and external (not inside cylinder) reedcage, it's an 87+ motor...
Hope this helps... post up some pics!

Also, stock 85-86's have round swingarms/carriers, while 87+ all came w/ square ones like on the LTZ400's.... Check them over good for cracks... Be sure to look over the frame VERY WELL for cracks or shoddy repairs.... And I'm sure you already know to look the engine cases over well for damage and cracks!
Good luck!!!

Unhappy Oh boy, this thing is a mess!

Well, it arrived. It's in real rough condition. Bad.
The 1st thing I noticed was the boot for the carb/A?C was out of place. The 2nd, no spark plug in the head. Bike has been sitting outside for (2) years.
I'm thinking I would be ahead just to 'part it out'.

You def. have a 91 or 92 there..... a little rough (they all start that way!)... case saver bosses still in tact... that's a plus (trying to be positive here!)

I'm not going to keep it. I'll part it or sell the whole bike for $500.00
It's all there. Except for the broken plastic's and exhaust muffler.
The engine being open to the elements, is what scares me.

I thought I'd let you know. The rear fender supports are hard to come by. That is the one thing I couldn't find when I had my 89 250r. You could buy alot better quad for what it would cost to fix up for sure. I had a ton in mine. It was a great quad for flat track and ice racing, but not enough suspension for rough trails. Good luck.
