Default 2003 ltz400 won't start

I have been trail riding my brothers 2003 ltz400 since my 450 has been out of commission. Last time I rode it I was beating on it pretty hard. Everything was running fine but then all of the sudden it started acting like the choke was on. It would run fine in the lower gears at low RPMs but when I got into the higher RPMs it would bog out. The next day it wouldn't start. It would pull start but it ran like crap all across the board. Now it won't start at all.

The timing chain is good, the valves are in spec, and the timing is right where it should be. It has good spark and I believe it's getting fuel. So what am I looking at here? Some sort of electrical problem or a carb issue?

How are the stators on these quads? If the stator is bad it will still produce spark, correct? What is the best way to test the stator?

Also what is the possibility of the valves being cupped?

Thanks!

He has a couple CDIs. I swapped them and it doesn't appear to be the problem.

I run it either in the "on" or "reserve" position if that's what you mean. But I did notice fuel will only flow when it's put to "off". What's the deal with that?

Try the petcock on PRI, see how it runs. These petcocks are notorious for not flowing, and the vacuum actuation ceasing to function. Let's hope it's that, it's a cheap easy fix.

If your petcock is all screwed up i just took off my stock one off and she flowed great even for an FCR but i wanted to be able to use reserve since there is no vacuum from the FCR.

Same with me. Gas doesn't flow very good at all when mine is in the ON position, I run mine on PRI

Gas shouldn't just flow in the "on" postion unless there is vac applied, it should flow in the prime.

This happens to both my Z's at the dunes every year!! Havent figured out the actual problem yet but if I take off my air cleaner and plug the intake with my hand while running the engine up to the rev limiter a few times it runs fine.. Chunk of dirt or something in the carb? Not sure but this cheap method works great for my Z's..

Check the petcocks and pull your jets out. cant hurt to clean em. if it runs the same you can def eliminate the carb being the problem.
