Default looking for parts

Hey. I have a 2006 ltz250. I think the ring and pinion gears are shot. The drive shaft turns but not the axle. I am at the point I don't know what to do. Replace parts which I can find for about $400 for the ring, pinion, bearings, and seals or part out the bike and get a new one. Any advice or comments are welcome.

If there is a need for any of the rest of the bike let me know so I can get an idea if it is worth parting out. thanks

The pinion gear is good and the teeth on the ring gear but the splines on the axle and the ring are toast. Not cool. It looks like a new axle it about $280 and a new ring gear is about $170 plus any seals and bearings. not cool. I wonder if you could weld the gear and axle together?

What if you bend the axle then?

That's the thing that sux about shaft drive. It's expensive. You must keep the maintenance up on it. Mine will be toast before too long. eBay might be you friend in this case.

I don't remember exactly how it comes apart, but if you can weld it and still be able to take it apart, that's what I would do. If it needs to come apart, drill and pin it. Or set screw it in a couple places. That is is the metal is not to hard to be drilled.

I dont know. I am thinking of parting it out. Looks like it will cost about $525. I only paid $900 for it. I am going to an offroad park in Tennessee mid July and my wife would like something to ride. I guess $525 is cheaper than getting a new quad.

Thanks guys. Still not sure. The axle I am looking at is from cycles r us. Cost about $280. I will kick around the welding idea for a min before I buy anything. I cant find crap for used parts.

I am putting jb weld on it to hold it in place then I will take it to a buddy to have it welded up. See if I cant break anything else. I will need an outer left bearing and seal. I see the kits but I don't want so spend all that money just yet for just 2 items.

Found bearing for $6 and a seal for $7 on ebay. better than buying a kit with a bunch of stuff i don't need. I just had to type in the specs 30X62X7 seal and 30x62x16 bearing. The bearing is sealed instead of open which I would think would be better for mud and water riding.

Sense the outer left bearing was not in the axle to ring gear was not straight so I had to take it off and do it over with the bearing. I will try to have it welded up this weekend.

I have it welded on both sides. I just need to clean it up some and install. I test fitted the left side of the diff and it fit. I guess I need a new breather thing and new skid plate.

First test drive. Good so far. I an taking it out Sunday and will do a real test. I need a rear skid plate and rear brakes but don't want to spend the money if this does not hold up.

Holding strong. No leaks. Did about 100 miles at coal creek TN without issue along with a day at boggs and boulders. Well worth buying my buddy some lunch to weld this up.
