So after replacing the entire rear end on the quad I get everything back together and now it does not run right. The Z will start up and idle perfect but any time i give it gas it just boggs out. There is times when I attempt to drive it that it will bogg then all of a sudden it gets a rush of power and take off and then it will all of a sudden bogg down again a few seconds later. I have replaced the spark plug and drained the gas and replaced it with new gas. I have removed the petcock and checked it for a clog but everything is clear there. i have checked my jets and as far as i can see they look clear. like I have said it starts and idles perfect it just wont rev up.. any suggestions.. thanks

Thanks everyone....

I've been lurking a couple weeks after I decided to get a quad and learned a lot here. I've been looking on CL and lots of other sites for about a month for the right deal. I saw a few that caught my eye, but finally picked up a real clean '06 KFX a few days ago.
Now which brand of oil is the best? :icon_biggrin:
j/k I'll post some pics once I get it cleaned up....

Hell everyone I'm not sure if this is the right section for this. Weel I sent my Z400 to Turn 1 Motorsports in Plymouth, IN last friday. Did not start but had spark and fuel. Would start when I pull it behind my friends truck but ran TERRIBLE. I figured it would need valve adjustment. That's why I took it there. Get a call today, guy says valves were in-spec on Intake, exhaust were out. So they readjusted them and everything. Tried to start, and nothing. So next was leak-down test. My cam chain tensioner failed, bad compression, and possibly a bend valve. Said top-end will need re-built as well... But they wants over $1,600 to do and 2 months. I'll just do-it-myself.
So this is basically start of a rebuild, I guess. Once some cash flow starts coming in I'll hop on it, but teardown should start this weekend. If any of you guys have any tips on ANYTHING??????? Teardown, engine rebuild, part suggestions, ANYTHING! Please feel free to let me know. I'm thinking 440 Kit and some stage 2 cams ;) Also there are pics of my Z in the Photo Gallery section (White w/ Blk hood) as she sits now so you all can see what parts she has. Not a ton but some. Thanks everyone, sorry so lengthy.

I used these on my sons bike. I thought I had replaced them but the ones I got to replace mine are the wrong ones. This is the only thing keeping me from setting my motor in the frame and cranking it. If you have these parts and can stick them in the mail quickly, let me know. I have no doubt in my mind if I order them from the dealer, they won't be here any time soon.

Hey guys. Just wanted to give a quick thanks to the whole community for all of the information that got my z400 riding perfectly. Took it to bear creek yesterday for the first time. Il tell ya what, coming from an 87 warrior to the z, was insane. It's like running before you crawl. What a blast it was. I drag raced a 400 ex and destroyed him. Went up against a 450r, and if I had better tires I think I would have kept up with him.
Well just sayin I had a blast, if aanyones ever been to bear creek ( or crick, whichever you prefer), feel free to comment on the area!

Has anybody came up with a good way to mount the fcr to our engines? I know the stock mounting intake will work but it is a tight fit and is a bit smaller than the inside of the carb. Is there an intake from another machine that works better? I used the stock one myself for a while but now have a piece of auto gas tank hose. Only thing I don't like about that is that the air and fuel will hit the edge of the head and could possibly affect the flow of air and fuel to the engine. What all are you guys running? Figured there was enough FCR guys out there now that somebody has came up with a good setup.

Hello I thinking about buying a fuel controller for my 09' z with full yoshi rs2 system. I'm just not sure about fuel controller which one should I buy. Do you think pim2 gonna be good decision? I don't have a laptop so it's look like smart decision because pim2 have two maps installed for rs2 with lid on and off. But I not sure if I can install it by myself I checked the instruction and it's look little complicated. What do you guys think what's best fuel controller for efi z?
Btw: pim2 have map installed for pump 91 and I'm using 95 do you think it's gonna make big difference?

I'm throwing the towel in for the night on my build. My piston is .020 in the hole more than I want. I was thinking (one of the ideas I have) of drilling the rivits off my head gasket and use just one of the black layers to put me where I want to be. Has anyone tried this? I'm thinking probably not, but what could it hurt? I actually did this on my ltz250 about 7 years ago and is still going with no problems. It's air cooled tho, I'm just wondering if the single gasket would seal good enough with a water cooled engine. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but hey, it's almost 1:30a.m. and I'm pretty tired! :lol

Looking at an 04 Z400 that my buddy has had sitting in his garage for a couple years with little to no riding of the bike.

Planning on buying it for about 1500 then taking it to the dealership and getting a complete tune up done. All new fluids, plugs, all the good stuff.

Havent had a chance to go look at it or even start it so what should I be looking for problem wise besides obviously not starting lol. Im figuring new fluids, complete crab rebuild, and some fresh gas to start off.

What are some beginner mod that you guys would start off, dont plan on racing the bike at the moment but I know how forums can be :p. Trying to keep the mods on the low end for now. Lets see a list of mods you guys would start with.

Only thing I know about the bike is that its got a yoshi pipe, not sure if its slip on or full kit.

Got the Fat peg Pro Armor nerf bars. The foot peg holes do not line up at all.
I tried them with the gusset up and down...

1: Does the gusset go on the top or bottom? (looks to me like it should go up)

Either way they will not fit.

2: Has anyone installed these on a late model Z and not had to drill out the one hole in the center of the peg?

Thanks for any input.

About a month ago I put up a matco 56" toolbox for sale/trade on the Miami Craigslist and I got an offer on an AR-15 50.cal beowulf. I've wanted an AR for quite sometime, but I really don't know enough about them to be sure if the trade is worth it.

This is my toolbox I put up

Any opinions? Things I should look for when I go see it?

I plan on selling it or either trading for a quad since it'll be a lot easier to move a gun than a toolbox.

Also I leak a lot of gas out of the overflow when my petcock is on res and prime but when I put it to "on" it's still leaks but not near what it does on prime and res so is the petcock bad or is the needle on the float stuck or broke?

Hey ya'll my new chain has been stretching kind of weird lately...i adjust it correctly and all but it will stretch a good bit. i Purchased a primary drive gold xring chain which is supposed to be a very good chain. Well just ot make sure everything was in order i went to pull the front sprocket cover after riding today to check the front sprocket and the top bolt broke off that holds the case saver on. I read a couple of threads about this happening to people and never really got a good answer. Has this ever happened to anyone? If so how did you fix it? Thank you for your time.

Hey guys, I need some ideas for an exhaust project. No, this Im not making a real, rideable exhaust. I have a project for school and in order to graduate we have to come up with a project and present about it. So since I like to ride, I thought making an exhaust would be perfect. I have to make a blueprint for it, which im going to do a 3D one on a computer. So what would be some good dimensions, style, color, etc. I want it to put out lots of HP and beat out all the rest of the competition (Remember its fake). So i thought who brtter to ask than people who know what they're talking about. Thanks a lot guys

Hey guys,

I need to know something with the pro armor skid plate for the swing arm...

Apparently there has been a model change through the years...
there's this model

Which one is the new model, and what's the difference besides that 1 model exists out of 2 parts and the other one not?

Thanks!

Alright, i've been working on a project of a kfx400, bought it as a basket case, and slowly been putting it together. Today i got the motor in along with new oil, coolant, new jets (full trinity pipe and intake with filter) 165 main/25 pilot two turns out. Motor and everything turns over fine, but only starts when i spray some starting fluid in the carb, when it does start it runs for maybe 3 seconds then cuts off. Here's the thing when i pour gas straight into the carb from a bottle it will run longer than it did with the spray of either. But still cuts out after about 5 second regardless of how much gas i give it or dont give it. The carb is clean, it has brand new jets, i'm running it on prime so that should eliminate the vacuum issue. But i'm kind of stuck as far as where to go here. I know my gas is good, it pours out when in prime. Does anyone have any suggestions or thing i should try? Thanks.

The reason i am asking, is because my bike keeps surprising me with modifications that i didnt know/ am learning of now. It has a yfz450 carb, the fcr 39 mm. I need a throttle cable bad. So first i want to identify if this is a stock thumber, and second, the correct throttle cable to get. I know this has been mentioned before, but again, im not sure if this is the factory thumber or not. And please ignore my friends gang sign hahaha
