07 trx 450r FCR

I just picked up this carb hoping I could make it work. I’ve searched and found only one post for the Honda fcr install. That post didn’t seem to solid. Anyone successful with this carb install?

I use them. They are a lot like the other FCR carbs, but there's a couple differences. Some good, some bad.

The bad is that they don't fit under the tank very good unless you cut the top of the throttle housing down. I cut the tors switch off, and cut the housing, then seal the top with duct tape.

Once that's done, I actually prefer these. The accelerator pump doesn't need the zip tie mod, and it doesn't have that coast down enrichment garbage on it.

One other difference is the cable fitment. You can get a yfz cable to work with it, but the Honda cable fits easier.

Jetting is like the others. I usually use a NCVQ needle instead of what they come with.

I also highly recommend a noss adapter or some sort of Bell for the inlet side of the carb. None of the flat cut FCR's really work to their potential without one.

Thank you for the help I appreciate it. What kind of intake tube works best with the noss adapter? Do you keep the head boot or use a different one?

Does the short or long adapter work best?

I use a carb to head boot for a 05 Honda 450r. The carb to air box boot for those performs quite well too, but takes some work to fit.

I use the short adapter. It fits better in the Z. There is some grinding to the carb to make it fit. Then use a little JB weld to secure it.

The main jet and needle affect each other some but the adapter and mods list have a bigger effect. You will want a range of mains and possibly some leak Jets and pilots for tuning.

Cool I appreciate the help. I’m guessing it came off a stock bike the main is 122, pilot 42, and leak 70. I’ll search the jetting database for a similar set up to get an idea where to start.

I’ve been gone trying to look up the numbers above the bowl to identify exactly what this carb came off of with no luck. I was told it was off a 07 450r but can’t find anything out about it. Also is the plastic adapter/bell meant to stay on head side of carb?

I finally got everything I need except my throttle cable. I bought one for a 07 450r but it won’t work with my motion pro twist throttle for my Z400. I need threads on both ends of the cable. Do I need a special cable or to buy a twist throttle for a 450r?

I'm not familiar with that twist throttle. Whatever cable is used on a 07 TRX with that throttle should work.

That is a 06+ TRX450R carb. Those jet specs sound stock and will be a ways off. 45p, NCVQ 3rd from the top, 40-50 leak, and 175 main would be a better start point. The main will be a wildcard.

By plastic bell, are you talking about the carb to head boot? I use 05 TRX450R parts there. It's longer and gets the carb away from the motor mount a little better.

Sorry for asking stuff I should have researched a little more. I got a piece of 1.900 fuel filler hose with a bend on it to back me off the headstay enough for the throttle cable to fit. I just ordered a new twist throttle for the 07 450r carb. I have mains from 155-175, 42 and 45 pilot, and a 55 leak jet. If none of those jets aren’t suitable I’ll use a reamer to get it right. I got that ncvq needle also. I ended up getting the short noss bell, and a 400ex intake tube. I am using a velocity air filter it pulls air in through the end cap so hopefully a little better than a regular k and n filter. The only thing I didn’t get was a piece of 3” aluminum pipe to connect my intake tube to the clamp on filter. The only thing I didnt think about it the d shaped adjuster for the accelerator pump. I’ll have to measure that and burn that shape in a pin so I can adjust it because there isn’t much room to work with around that adjuster. I had to de-burr that noss adapter all the edges were very sharp and they left burrs around the air jet holes on the taper. It looked like they just took it straight off the CNC and shipped it. I’m going to start installing this weekend. I really appreciate your help pointing me in the right direction.

I’m hoping the bend in the filler hose will help level the carb out too. My bike is stock except for a sparks exhaust and that velocity air filter

I had a 70 leak jet and it was timed perfect before I installed. I swapped it out with a 55 and noticed a big difference in the squirt. I couldn’t ever get it adjusted right with the 55. I had to leave it just barely hitting the slide not being able to adjust it perfect. How do I determine correct leak jet sizing? Also shouldn’t I be able to adjust any leak jet to not hit the slide at squirt?
