1st place 400 builder and 2nd place 450+ builder at the Jamboree

I raced my Z-470 in Genoa NE last weekend for the fall Jamboree. They have sand drags there, and I took 1st place in the 400cc builder class, ReloadZ400 (Matt) took 2nd. Then we both decided to move up a class, and I took 2nd in the 450 builder class.

It was a blast! We have been getting ready for it for a couple weeks which included several drag races between the corn fields.

We got there saturday to watch the stock classes, and try out our setups. Natually, I bought some different rims to put my haulers on, and didn't realize till we got there that they fit a Yamaha. So by the time we got back to Matt's, took care of all the other stuff we needed to do, and got in the garage, I think it was 3am by the time I had the rims drilled to fit my Z, and we got the paddle tire on his bike and had everything ready.

Sunday, we got there and had a little time to spare, so we went out and practiced a while. It felt great, we were both putting away a lot of 450 based quads that we could see were there to race.

We had the 400 builder hands down. It was Matt and myself in the finals both un defeated, both on 470's, and mine is just faster.:blah:

Then we decided to move up a class to see how we would do. Matt made it quite a few rounds in, and at some point they started seperating the Raptors from the 450 and smaller bikes, even though some of us were beating some of the raptors

But anyways, after they split it up, I faced a YFZ in our final and got beat. That thing was a rocket, and allegedly still 450cc's which I'm not sure if I believe or not. Then he went on to face a built raptor and lost to him.

So technically I got 3rd in the 450+ but they split the class for whatever reason.

Either way, we had a blast, and definately had the fastest 400cc based quads there. We did a whole bunch of exibition drag racing, and not much out there could beat me. I beat a whole slew of 450's There was a 525 Polaris/KTM that was about even with me, I beat a 250R, a couple banshees that must not have had too many mods, some modded raptors, all with my underdog Z.

I should have more pics and maybe a video or two eventually.

So, You needed Yamaha wheels to win?

Congrats u 2.. Great job..

Yeah we had a blast, I couldn't have imagined a better outcome for the 400 builder class.

I can't take all the credit, I was riding another friends Z, him and I have rebuilt that quad so many damn times, its not even funny. But he wanted me to race it, he felt it was the best thing so I gladly accepted. Race after race in the 400 class was awesome, Chuck and I already knew how him vs me would go down, so we were sure to never line up side-by-side. I really never expected it to happen that way, but damn, what a ride!

Chuck and I actually had three races for the finals, he BARELY red-lighted on our first pass, and I snagged the best holeshot I had all day. I took the win, but they said the staging lights error'd and wanted us to re-run. So be it. Next race I pulled another decent holeshot, but as always, Chuck walked past me by mid track. The final race, my front-end came up, as fast as I could put it down and shift into 3rd it came up, Chuck was long gone. Meh

We had an awesome weekend, and the all the planning and tuning paid off great. No prizes or anything, just bragging rights. The icing on the cake was watching Chuck lay the smack down on the 450 class, man did he piss some people off!

Sounds like tons of fun!
Congrats to both you guys............4 stroke wars?

biggiej42 10-18-2011 10:28 PM

Congrats guys!!! You both show that rider skill and engine know-how can get you a victory!

CFM 10-19-2011 01:30 AM

Thanks a bunch guys! It felt pretty good to show up some fast quads with a Z!

Dan:
I know a good graphics kit when I see one :lol

I don't think it was the Yamaha wheels so much as the extra holes that they now have (light weight) :lol

I don't know about rider skill, IT CLEARLY WASN'T FAIR :blah: :lol

Matt:
Thanks for everything broseph, I don't know if I even would have went if you hadn't planted the evil seed in my mind. Luckily I buckle under peer pressure rather easily :lol

I had a real good feeling that it would be you and me in the finals of the 400. You were the only other guy I raced in that class that I could still see at the other end. And for the record, you are the only other 400 based quad that beat me all weekend

Tom needs to see this. He did the head porting on the two fastest 400 based quads that were in Genoa last weekend. (although mine has been taken a little farther since then)

I just realized a little while ago that Josh's engine is kind of a slut :lol FOr everyone that doesn't know, It's the engine I borrowed for Glamis 09 when it was a 400 again because of some sort of disaster prior to that. However that 400cc Z pulled a 250 lb rider up the china wall on Knobbies which is unheard of

I have a hand full of pictures so far that were on my girlfriend's phone. There will be more to come.

Here's Matt leaving the line with a Modded EX

Me beating up on another EX... I almost thought it was the first pic again, but it's not.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...1016114457.jpg

Ok, it's another EX, but this is ridiculous. I could swear there were way more Z's in this class, but I don't see them in these pictures.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...1016114554.jpg

This is from Saturday. Here is Matt on my Z, laying the smack down on a Z that he used to own. For reference, the point this picture was taken from is barely ahead of where they started. I know Matt hasn't shifted yet :lol This picture is cool for a few reasons.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...a/IMAG0182.jpg

These are from after the race was over...

I like this pic! A Banshee, Me, Matt on his KX 250, and a 700 Raptor. I could almost hang with that Banshee. I beat some other ones. That 700 Raptor had a pipe on it, and didn't stand a chance.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...1016143646.jpg

The Banshee and I had a grudge match. I can't tell who is behind the roost :lol

Me Josh Matt

There will be more coming when I get a chance. I have a few videos yet, and I don't know what all Josh got with his phone.

Pulido221 10-19-2011 05:16 PM

Man, you embarrased those hondas:lol

I've always had a sweet spot for the lil ol Z bikes. I'm stoked to see you guys did so great. :D

What are the rules for the Builder class 400? CC limits? Race fuel?

No boost, no nitrous, no transplants.

On a side note, the gentleman running the tree told me that if Chuck and I broke into 5.1 seconds or faster in the 300 foot, we would be moved to the outlaw class and not allowed in the builder class. This was right after we finished the 400cc builder class races.

Estimated we were running 5.6 ish
