06 Eiger too lean.

Hey guys! New to the forum here. First post. I really like the form by the way. I've done quite a bit of searching and haven't found my answer yet so here goes.

When I bought this 06 Eiger 400. It ran awesome until all of a sudden one day it started running badly. It started great and then as soon as you give it throttle, it fell on it's face. Eventually it wouldn't start. My son and I disassembled, cleaned and inspected the carburetor several times. Finally we got frustrated, gave up and brought it to a friend of mine who is a Motorcycle mechanic. He got it running. He said all he did was clean the carburetor and that the reason it is running lean is that there is wear on the slide, allowing too much air in, making it run lean and it needs to be replaced. I'm not sure I completely believe that. What do you guys think? This is the first carburetor I've ever worked on that doesn't have a mixture screw. Thanks in advance for the help.

oh, and it will not start without the choke on. It falls on its face and pops a lot until when throttle is applied until it warms up and then it still runs very lean. You have to leave the choke on all of the way the whole time.

Even if it was worn, you should be able to compensate for a lean condition by allowing more fuel.. If it runs good with the choke on, it needs more fuel.. Assuming you haven't messed with the intake tract or airbox, it is usually a sign of dirt or varnish in the carb or fuel tank. Is there a fuel screw that you can mess with, or is it hidden?

There is no idle mixture screw what so ever and the carb is squeaky clean in and out. I would let rally eat off of that thing. What I want to know is how did i suddenly go from running like a top to can't get out of its own way when it's cold and still gotta run it with the choke on after its warmed up, over night.

I've had a jet corrode before and no amount of cleaning made it any better, so I just replaced it. $6, problem solved.
