Ive been doing some talking with several companies and basically a aftermarket shock is either 16" or 19" +or - 1/4" depending on brand. 16" is the common "stock length". Anyway Derisi said that they have actually run 250R shocks on the Z. length and stroke are not machine speciffic only valving and spring rate. Most companies say that if it is a 16" shock and will bolt on, a new shock specific for the Z will be no different than what you already have, except for vavling and spring. Note that a 400ex or my old 250rx are going to be valved and sprung as close as any guess out on the market right now since noone has done any REAL testing yet.

thats what most of the companies are saying. Ive got some works for a 88r and they are almost a half inch shorter fully extended. They will provide more up travel. Im going to put both on tomorow without any springs and make sure nothing is wrong while it sits bottomed out. Derisi racing says there is a thing in there that can be taken out and get another quarter inch extension. That total length difference actually gets the a- arms a little bit more at an angle like that of the 250r which is still the king of all quads. He also says that my works can be revalved with axis style vavling and zps. If they bolt on Im going to get a rear swingarm +1"/honda style carrier first.

dont put anything but Z shocks on or you will be replacing parts. These aftermarket guys that distribute shocks have no idea yet! I did some more measuring and if your shock is not exact length when you bottom out you will be bending / breaking tie rods because they hit the rear-upper a arm where it connects to the frame!!!!!!! PEP is the only company that even remotely knows about this yet. When derisi racing told me 250R shocks would work and that they had "tested" them, well lets just say they only must have ran them down the driveway cause there is no way in hell they will work!!!! 400ex wont work either they are a tad shorter and thus will give more up travel and break parts to.

elka direct seems to know what they are doing and there specks agree with what I measure(without telling them first lol) Some of there dealers do not seem to be up to speed though so I would advise ordering direct only for now but that should change in a month i would suppose.

Just take the springs off your shocks and jump on the bumper. If your frame hits the ground then you will need a different shock with more downtravel and less up travel. You can also add spacers under the rubber bumer if this happens, this way your shock will bottom before your frame does. You're also right about Elka knowing there stuff, I have a set of fully adjustable Elkas and they are great. You can also see if anything hits, such as tie rods when you take the springs out.

No need to reinstall the shocks. Just measure eye to eye distance when fully collapsed on the stock shock and the one you plan on using. After removing the springs of course.

interchangewith honda's

i all most think that honda and suzuki joined forces. i have only onwed and raced 250r,s and didnt have a clue what would be interchangable or be abled to upgrade on my 400z that is being rebuilt for the gnc pro class heres some things that seem alot like honda's, rims, a-arms, shocks, you can upgrade tie rod-ends with honda 250r but you also have to use the center piece, haven compared front hubs to 250r,s but seem to be close and front brake rotor , i will comfirm everything buy the weekend as i am in the process of tearing if down and will compare all parts to my lonestar 250,s also they left alot of room for improvements to this quad ive seen alot of airbox mods going on and i just discoverd another which allows you to run a 250r k&n and really flow some air into that carb . and i tried some 250r air scoops the only thing you will make is a bottom mount the tops bolt right up

I know that you can use 400ex rims on a Z.  What other parts can you use???  I really need nerf bars fast...[/b]
alot of drz-dirt bike parts are interchangeable and make the thing run better such as carb, base gasket a 15 $ mod, a top secret air boot with 250r quad air filter which when i learn how to post these *&^%$# pics i will show you, drz ignition box which should let the thing rev a little higher ill have a drz dirt bike over some time next week to find out if the box works for sure,
