got the idle adjusted? will it stay running if you are on the throttle? if so, it is probably the idle screw needing adjusted.
jets maybe
it has real good throttle response it just dies right about 8 to 10 seconds and kinda backfires while doing so ive checked the plug its a nice dry chocolate brown but now i checked all the fluids and the oil tank was full of white milky oil full to the top so im assuming my coolant is getting past a gasket and mixing with the oil which means i need a new gasket kit if im wrong or you have any suggestions please help me out thanks

Clogged vacuum line on the carb? Maybe gum in the carb? Have you pulled the carb and cleaned it well? Just some suggestions :icon_biggrin:
If your oil is milkey then either of the gaskets are leaking coolant into the oil, you need to sort that out !!. That would not stop the bike from running though.
1. Check idle screw
2. check valve lash
3. check petcock that it flows freely
4. check carb, neddles etc. cant really see the needles being blocked because it fires.
5. remove air filter and try again
Has the bike been left for a long time without being run up ?, the milkey oil could have come from condensation in the lines over winter, mine did (not a lot, but still had some in)
6. Remove choke from carb, clean it and make sure it operates correctly ( i also had this problem, it was stuck in the half on position causing the bike to run awful and at idle shut off)

Thats all the help i have, hope it helps.

cleaned carbs fully, yes the choke was stuck but even after i fixed that didnt change anything. Fuel has to be flowing because it starts right back up after it dies. Kinda ruling out valves to because the fact it starts right up everytime hot or cold but yes thats what i figured as far as the gaskets go i have new ones on the way i was kinda puzzled on where all my coolant was going loli figured why i have the top end apart ill be checking the clearances for the valves. Does anyone have a thought as to whether it could possibly be and electrical thing as i dont have a battery i used to run my 400ex with no battery all the time i kinda figured this would be the same way. Do these bikes not run if oil pressure isn't building up? Please help guys i cant figure it out for the life of me.
Got the gaskets last night, tore everything down and got to cleanin. Everything went pretty good and looks good. Now im starting to reassemble and start runnnin oil through it to get some of this water out. I bought 5 quarts of pennzoil 5w-30 hopefully that'll be enough to run it all out.

having the same issued, wont idle, carb was rebuilt with cleaned parts. starts right up only with throttle held open a little. Im wondering if its flooding, but doesnt smell rich coming from the exhaust. Questioning your response, when you refer to the idle screw? Are you talking about an internally threaded brass fitting adjustment or the hand turned idle set adjuster on the side of the carb? i understand there is a idle air adjuster at the bottom of the carb on the outlet side of the carb?

Did you put in a new idle jet when you rebuilt the carb? Does it idle if you hold the throttle on a little. If so just adjust the idle with the black knob (did I remember that right?)
The screw at the bottom of the carb should be screwed just snug and back it out 1.5 turns and see how it does.

yes, it will run with the adjustment tight causing a high idle, once warmed up and i try to bring it down it will start to surge up and down as i try to bring the idle down and then it will just quit. Then i have to restart it while holding thumb throttle slightly open.

Just to clarify I haven't thrown any to new parts in. I just took the carb apart throwing cleaned the varnish off everything inspected gaskets and diaphragms. I found no cracks swollen or brittle rubber.
Try a new pilot jet.
Try a new pilot jet.
I replaced all jets, diaphragms choke. Everything is brand new in carb as of now. Will start and run cold or hot with thumb on throttle. Will run with idle adjustment set hi. Once a try to to bring the idle down it will cut out. Can’t figure it out.

Have you done a compression check?
