Quadsport LT250S

Hey Guys,

After spending all my money on my kids '07 Z400 I had to dredge the bottom of Craigs list for a quad for me to ride. Found this one for sale locally and decided to give it a look. Wasn't in bad shape at all and for a good price.
Needs a few bearings and ball joints and the plastics are pretty cracked on the front, but hopefully something I can get welded up or at the least all
stitched up.

Previous owner hadn't run it in ten years and it looked like it. Cleaned it up and tossed some gas in it and it started right up and ran great...then leaked
gas all over the place as I expected it to. Might just keep the teardown going and have it powder coated over the winter.

Nice! Those side kick starters are different
I had an 89 but it was beat bad. That quad is in really nice shape!
Talked to the wife about it and she is all for me restoring it. Guess she is used to it with
all the John Deere garden tractors I restored. Plus if I put less than $2K in it she is good
with that as it is better than spending $7K on a new one. :)
It was hard for me to find aftermarket parts, some of the 230S parts will fit but not many if I remember. DG made a lot of parts for it and those were the easiest to find.
Mine was a total hooptie those plastics look great
They photograph well, but the front fender is wrecked only held together by a string. Going to stitch them this weekend. Looks like the previous owner hit a tree as the bumper is a bit out of whack
and the top A Arm is bent...right about where the plastic is split.

Those trees never seem to get out of the way. good luck with the fixer upper.
My uncle had an '89 LT250S he bought new back in the day. He still regrets getting rid of it. You just don't see too many survivors of that model these days....
You said it leaked gas,I recently rebuilt one that had been laying up,Its leaking gas aswell as far as i can tell,I dont think its from the carb,Any ideas Where they usualy leak from?
Mine is leaking from the carb. Got a rebuild kit on the way.
Started the tear down this week. Everything looks pretty good underneath. Have to find out if I can repack the stock exhaust. Also have to try my kids Z400 muffler on it as it looks like it has the same bend to it.

Found a good place to do the powder coating locally so all is good.

The new plastics have shipped and should be here on Monday. :)

lookin good! after seeing yours i found one on tulsa crigslist looking rough cosmetically but supposed to run with spare motor and parts quad for 800. i like the color that one is now, but what color are you going to have it powdercoated?
I'm going with the original colors. I like the blue and white.
Got the new front and rear fender today. Now to order the hood and tank cover. Hopefully the same place has them in stock as well.

Well I'm not very fast at this. Got quite a bit done today before it got too cold in the garage. What was left of the swing arm bearing was unrecognizable.

I also think I have a couple of oil leaks in the engine....Not surprised.
Looks like I'll have to tear that down as well and get new gaskets for it.

Bob Tracey's had the discontinued decals in stock...luckily for me.

I had a 230 and a 250 good machines. Just one thing change oil often because they have bad crank problems. Both of mine did and two others that friends had also had that problem.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm good at changing the oil in my machines.....not so good about it in my truck, but my toys get it changed often.
A slow process, but I got it powder coated finally. I of course forgot a few of the smaller pieces and have to get them done this week, but it is looking good for now.

Got more done, but just waiting to work on the motor still. Lots of other projects got in the way both on my end and my brothers.

Hopefully in Jan I can get the motor back in.
