Whats it take to remove the starter? My dad said he needed some sort of puller?

Nope, just two bolts and the ground wire and thats all there is to it. Just Replaced mine. There is a rubber o'ring that you have to make sure not to damage. When you unbolt it, it should just wiggle out. Atleast thats what mine did.

OK so its not the starter its the stator

if you want to remove the stator, you are going to need a flywheel puller. You can buy one on Rocky Mountain ATV (Tusk Flywheel/Clutch Puller).. I believe it's only like $15 (not 100% on that one though.) What do you need to remove the stator for anyways?

oh damn! hahahaha if you need help, RMATVMC has videos of rebuilding the bottom end, step by step.

how are you going to replace it without taking the flywheel off?

Ok so is it 24mm or 38mm? i saw one on ebay for a ltz 400 for 24 mm
