just have about 10 hrs on my z400,seems to have slight mechanical noise from top of motor.is this normal and should i take it to dealer for first service becuase of this??you have to put your head down by motor to hear it.
don't want to take it to dealer if this is normal.i'm used to two strokes.any advice would be great.

if you have to put your head close to motor to hear it then it's more than likely normal. there is alot more mechanical "friction" going on in a 4 stroke engine compared to a 2 stroke. if you open the hood of your car or truck and listen closely you will hear a similar noise while the engine is running.

Kinda sounds like friction noise off of the piston? if so mine does this as does my friends I assume that it is normal.

no, not off of the piston, the valvetrain. the valvtrain has a cam (this one has 2) valves (4), springs (4) and either a chain or gears. these make noises.
