Ignition Timing (stock)
10° BTDC @ 1500 RPM

Spark Plug Type
NGK CR7E (CR8E beyond 13:1 compression)

Spark Plug Gap
0.7-0.8 mm (0.028-0.032 in.)

Spark Plug Cap Resistance
12,000-20,000 ohms

Ignition Coil Resistance
(primary) 0.1-1.0 ohm (terminal to ground)
(secondary) 6,000-7,000 ohms (high tension - plug cap removed - to ground)

Magneto Coil Resistance
(trigger) 350-670 ohms (green to blue)

(charging) 0.1-1.5 ohms (brown to brown)
MAGNETO

Magneto Coil PeakVoltage *(requires peak voltage meter, not a regular AC meter)*
(trigger) 2.0+ AC volts (green to blue)

Battery Voltage (Engine Running)
(charging)14-15.5 DC volts (black test lead to (-) battery)-(red test lead to (+) battery)

Stator Unloaded Output (charging)
65 AC volts @ 5000 rpm (3 brown wires every direction, a total of 3 tests disconnected from the main harness)

Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment
892-1208 ohms @ idle (red lead to yellow wire pin and black lead to black wire pin 2 sensor with wires disconected)

Engine Coolant Fan Switch
On @ 88°C (190°F)

Off @ 82
°C (180°F)

All Switches
Less than 1 ohm resistance when they are connected (Closed), and no connection when they are dis-connected (Open). Any variance from that = bad switch.

CDI
There is no test for a CDI All you can do is try a different one, or verify that the stator, coil, ignition switch, kill switch, and any teathers are working properly, and the battery voltage is acceptable.

Voltage Regulator
Verify that stator output is correct, and check all other connections. If battery voltage is still below spec with the engine running, or more than 16v, replace the voltage regulator.

That should pretty much cover it. This is a question and answer thead only. Please don't try to troubleshoot your bike in this thread, start your own. Keep questions about the testing procedures in here.

Thanks guys.

Can someone look for "source coil" specs... Apparently The artic cat manual ignores that one, but it is an important part of diagnosing no-spark issues.

Stator output in watts at 12 volts? Didn't see it in the factory manual specs.
