Hey guys just bought a 03 Z400 with a namura big bore kit, I’m having some issues and hoping to get squared away on here, seems to be a lot of good info on here

Only details the seller was able to give me was that it was a namura 434 kit, I recently changed the oil and was pretty upset with what came out, it was all grey and seemed to have some metal in it, is that common for a fresh build? No jetting has been done and everything is stock as far as I know other than the head kit

Break-in oil changes can look kinda nasty. Everything is cutting into a seated position and puts out a bit of metal shavings. No way of telling how long it’s been since the rebuild except his word, so I’d just change oil every ride until it clears up.

Ok well that makes me feel better, I’m still concerned about how this thing needs to be jetted, I found a thread about drilling the main jet out to a 1/16 hole so I did that for the time being because it was breaking up/starving for fuel about half throttle in gear but I wanna get the right jets in it. Is there anything else that needs to be done as well?

That’s something I haven’t heard before. Jets are about $6 at any shop and are precise fuel metering orifices. Drilling it would be terribly inaccurate. There is a jetting database where you can compare your bore, exhaust, air filter setup, and altitude to get pretty darn close on what you need.

I found it on this site and like I said it’s deffinetly temporary until I can can get a full kit, I’m just wondering if all the other needles need to be changed too? I have zero knowledge on jetting a carb, and the big bore kit too, seemed to run alright today but did run better when I took the air breather box lid off, just makes me wonder if theirs other things that need to be done
