I thought that a long time ago too BUT...........

I just finished installing the Bare Performance Air box and WOW!

The box is bigger internally so you can fit a larger air filter hence more air flow which means more Horse Power!

I highly recommend the Bare Performance Air box. Priced Right. I would never pay $229 for the UM version but for $125 it is well worth it!

I will have pics up after the Ironman this weekend!

 

You can get a little bit bigger air filter, the box is a little bit bigger for more room around the filter, you dont need an adapter for aftermarket air filters, stronger, looks better. Check out CFM, They make a nice one, along with other aluminum parts.

 

what filter are you using, if its a K&N let me know the part number so I can check its dimensions

Its a k@n I'm not sure of the part number, I'll measure it and post it for you.

 

I have the UM that i got for $100 on ebay and it specs a 250R filter because its bigger and it clamps on with a giant hose clamp basically.

I agree with craZy400. Here is a pic of my Bare Performance box after I installed it about 3 weeks ago.

I looked for the box that my K&N came in but I must have thrown it away. You might send PM to Z400intheair (Matt Bare) and ask him the part number for the K&N that he sells with his airboxes.

 

Our airboxes use a 4x6 airfilter, the KN part # is RU-1620, thanks guys for the compliments...PM me if anyone is interested in ordering one or email sales@bareperformance.com

The box is $125.
The lid, K&N filter and outerware are all extra. Still a helluva deal though, this airbox really lets the Z breath.

 

I understand about the bigger air box for more volume of air, but when you put that lid on, it will cut down that volume of air, even with those slots in the lid. I wouldn't bother with the lid. Still look good though.

You are correct, the lid restricts some air flow. I don't run with the lid on unless I'm going to ride in some real crappy stuff.
