I was thinking about buying a performace ignition coil for z400...my question is does any body make them since im having a hard time locating one and if people do ..who makes the best one to buy.?????????

somebody had some on ebay if you search LTZ400, but I don't know if they are any good or not? I would like to know the same question if somebody has answers. I know on cars and trucks there is definitely a difference. Doesn't make huge power numbers but does crisp up the throttle some and always seem to start a little better.

The Suzuki coil on these is actually ok. If you put the Dynatek ignition module on it will increase the spark energy. Ray.

Yes I saw one on ebay for 59.00 and claimed 5hp gain.I really don't think so but also would like to know if it will make enough difference for the cost.[/b]
Ask the seller to back up those claims with some proof, say dyno graphs. I did that and he said he'd get right back to me. That was many many months ago when he first started offering them on e-bay. I'm still waiting, does that tell you anything.
Go ahead and ask him, then post his response here so we all can get a laugh.

well ive been study-ing this same thing for some time very hard now.

the monster coil from amr isnt as high voltage like the nology profire coil with the hot wire.

after speaking with the head man at nology i beleive that the nology coil kit will provide a benefit to my quad. so im going to buy one and finsh the part of the question behind this post.
it shows on trenga racing that doug gust used the nology profire coil and hot for his race quad. they also want 175ish for the both coil and wire while nology will send it to ya for about 130ish ebay isnt much cheaper. you need the .30s .30ohm single coil obviously
ill reply back with results of the price/performance ratio.

If you see something on ebay saying that it will give you 5hp more for $59, than they are full of w00ter. I don't think there is a mod out there that cheap that will give that much of an increase in power. Like stated about, a full pipe, jetting, and no airbox like is most likely not going to give you much. But, if you really want to I can sell you my stock one and it makes 10hp.......

I have a Nology HotWire and Coil from a previous single cyl racing engine and was considering trying it.
What's the p/n of the coil they said to use or can you provide Nologies phone number and I'll talk with them myself.
Thanx

well the coil alone runs about 80usd through jeff at nology. model# is pfc-03-s .25 ohm single high tention tower. part # is 152 001 130 you have to buy the hotwire spark plug wire for this coil as well. i imagine you could se another plug wire but i would recommend using the hotwire by nology as well.

jeff at nology is very nologable with ather coils as he tests them and whatnot and hes honest and very experienced. hell be happy to answer any questions for you. he can be reached at the nology corporation. phone # is 7605910888. ask him about the hotwire to match.

these are coils that have over 45,000 volts of discharge on every single fire. more benefitial to a 2 storke engine being that the fuel is lighter but this coil will provide more throttle resonse, better starts hot or cold, better fuel efficiency, may even alow you to burn more fuel thus creating more power. this is the same coil doug gust used on his z. you will spend about 120 bucks for the coil and wire but its all these small things that count. this coil can produce very noticable improvements in my experience

If your going to put money into your ignition, get the Dyna non programable ignition. It alone will provide more than enough spark energy through even the stock coil, not to mention a higher rpm limit and a more aggressive spark advance curve.

Vortex also makes a good ignition. Anything else is made by procom which has been troublesome for many members.

you are correct. i have a procom adjustable rev box that features 0+rpm, 1000+ rpm, or 2000+rpm over with the option of top end curve low end curve or mid range curve. in total it has 9 setting. this are suppose to be junk cdi's but in my experience it works great.

if you want everything hi performance then get dyna fs or vortex cdi and coupled with the nology profire coi; and spark plug wire you will surely be puttin out some fire.

well after installing my exhaust and coil today i was getting the red hot headpipe.
in order to use an airbox elimnator i had to go up to a 170 main jet with stock exhaust. . i was a tad rich with 170 an the intake alone on stock exhaust. i got a 170 main jet with my exhasut. well after the pipe and coil installation tonight my bikes head pipe was glowing in about 20 seconds after start from choke not even warmed up.

lean poppin wouldnt even run without popping or cutting out with 1 foot flames to light the night. i beleive this coil has much to do with the large jetting requirement. im going to try upping to a 200 - 220ish jets to correct my leanness.

so far my mods from stock include fmf hi flow head pipe, hmf slip on, procom adjustable rev box, velocity intake kit(airbox eliminator), and some cooling parts

Red Devil, have you tried changing your pilot jet or adjusting your needle?

#18 ·
well today i installed a trail tech flywheel 16oz lighter than stock. i also up my jetting to 200 and my pipe still glows red. i refuse to pay 50 60 bucks for a jet kit so there for i have no adjustable needle. and thats basically all id be paying for as i already have all jets by mikuni 135-200mains. stock 22.5 pilot and stock needle.

i have not changed the pilot because from idle to full throttle theres no bog or anything. all power delivery from ide to wot with instant full revving. the plug check is white as it was when i pulled it out of the box and put it in.

i think this coil is burning all the fuel and causing extra leanness.

im reccomending these nology profire coils and the nology hot wire to match. i cant see what its diong for sure but this bike is screaming now. the coil has to be playing a part.

ill get me a 25 pilot to put in and get 200, 205,210,215,220 mains just get started and fine tune from there.

What was your final conclusion on this test. I run an Advantage cdi and was pondering a dyna and was wondering about a coil. Kinda seems like the right thing to do is buy both at the same time. Never had problems with mine. Just was wanting what you guys say is better.
